View Full Version : Anyone fear death?

I nedver used to and to an extent I still don't but as I get a bit older I will sit and think... THIS is what life is supposed to be about? Go to school, get a job, date some girls, **** more girls, settle down, work somemore, have some kids, get older, travel somewhere in there and then die?
Anyone think there HAS to be more to life than this? That one day you simply won't exist to walk this earth anymore?
Man that's a scary thought to think about some days.
FYI: I am NOT unhapppy with my life just in case someone gets the idea that I am. That's not what this post is about. It's about here today and gone tomorrow.

Well, for just over half of you people, dieing is just the beginning, right? Then it's off to play the harp on a cloud somewhere, eat some philly light while staring at Albert's ass, and chill with JC, right?
With that in mind, there's nothing to be afraid of at all.
Since you put it that way i'm half way dead.

That's just it. You don't have a choice in the matter. You are going to die. Whatever life and memories you have will cease to exist.
Doesn't matter how good or bad you lead your life. No one is spared.

we all die.
some earlier then others, some in accident. some with disease. some at age 100.
live every second like its your last... yes...hard advise to follow, and I struggle to keep to that logic myself, but just remember. It can always be worse.
death is pretty messed up and i think about it all the time. it does freak me out, and scare me ya. anxiety sucks.....but i love var.....

I have to believe that there is something we just don't know. Not a religious scale, not scientific, its something else. Something our minds are not adept to understanding or implementing, or even being part of.
I often think of our cognitive functions, the cerebral cortex, the subconcious, being sentient and all that shit, shit we don't understand, can't understand. How can the universe be unending? No start, no beginning. And its got to go the other way too - smaller than an atom, forever smaller.
And what about people that are clinically dead for hours and come back, speaking of out of body experiences where they can describe everything the doctors did, down to the name etched in the side of the tool their using, all the while the patient has their eyes taped shut, no pusle, no brain activity... like what the ****?
Theres got to be more once we (our sentient selves) leave our physical host body.
Shit I sound like a nut here LOL! I could go on forever but I'll stop now. You get my point. Theres got to be more.

Dude, I think the answer should be obvious by now....Scientology......duh....
LOL
But seriously, ya I think the whole concept of an afterlife is incomprehensible to the living human brain as well. The bible was written in a very primitive time by people searching for answers and wanting something / someone to believe in. Much the same way we are now. I try to just enjoy the ride, but one has to worry sometimes. Our realization of our mortality is what makes humans unique. No other species on earth does this, as far as I know.

I don't fear it. I don't like it, but hey, there is no stopping it.
Yeh I've been real religious since I was a little kid, Christian. Believe it or not I have complete faith in life after death. Heaven or Hell. I'll be honest, theres been times when I've doubted these things. Church and family have been a big help. It's really hard sometimes to believe in something that you can't see.....I guess thats why they call it faith. Call me crazy! Lots do! Hahahaha:yeah

fear death? Yes.
You can always go in denial and give 15% of your salary to a random religion, this could solve it. Otherwise you're stuck in an existential crisis. The best and easiest way to solve it is by doing something you consider worthwhile or somehow extend your existence past your life (IE do something big so people will remember you). I think school shootings are good for that, but its getting pretty old, we need some novelty. All jokes apart, of course the thought of not existing is very scary, but you should use that to fuel you into doing more things before its over; like when you're in an amusement park, you try to do as much rides as possible before it closes, rather than curl into fetal position. Personally, I find I live better when avoiding certain thought patterns, like what's wrong with society, fanatic ideologies and obviously death. Since there's not a whole lot I can change about those, I just try to change myself.

this is a real feel good thread.....NOT..many times I think about it...there is nothing fun about the fact that some day some time you have to go and leave behind everyone you love ...just very sad...

Care about dying? Not really afraid of death, I just consider it the end of conciousness, however its the method of dying that freaks me.
The one way I wouldn't want to go is drowning...just a fear i have...

I'm afraid of getting old above all.
I'd sooner die than be an old man stuck in a "home" with a case of senility and no dignity or shame left.

Everyone pretty much knows the end is near, so they **** all the time until they're too old or sick to ****.
If I am in a home, and not senile.... I am going to bang bang bang bang No rubber. No pull out. I will be one of those old farts who gets a hard on when it is sponge bath time....

LOL I haven't done a bar slut in two years, but that's all about to change.
I used to actually give a **** about morals, and not having casual sex.... What a dumb **** i was. i missed out on soooo much throughout the years.
No more...missing out. This related back to the moral of this thread. You only live once. Just dont get a disease, and dont get a girl prego. Otherwise....time to spread some love

I found my neighbor dead a while ago in his kitchen. he hadn't been answering phone calls for a few days, so i went over with his sister to check on him. The screen doors were locked so i knew he must be in there. I broke in through the basement window and found him dead in the kitchen, apparent heart attack.
It kind of freaked me out for a bit thinking that one minute you are here and next minute ..poof you're gone.
But then after all the EMS people left I had a peanut butter and jam sandwich and life was good again.

Kinda funny... one of the thoughts I had last night on my way home from the gym (I use that as my mish-mash thought time) was, "It'd be cool to know the day you die so that you could celebrate it annually, like a birthday but it's a death-day... Every year from the day we're born we pass over that day on the calender unknowingly... I like hamburgers..."

I would do more then celebrate every year on the date. I would go out and do whatever I wanted since I new I wouldn't die. It would be great as long as that day isn't to soon.

I think what I fear most is the loss of others or being around and feeling a loss of mobility, freedom, quality of life. As for death itself, its more of a sense of sadness, in that there is so much to enjoy in this life and possibly miss. What can compare to a beautiful day, a starry night, out on the lake, or a walk through some beautiful scenery? Everyone must have some place where they go and really feel fully alive.

The fear of dead is the fear of unknown, most of the time I could care less... 2 or 3 times a year I start to think about it and i don't know what scares me if it is to die or to get really old and be alive in a body that doesn't function well.
i dont fear death so much as becoming terminally ill due to something ive done to myself...
in the last week 2 people close to me have had life threatening conditions show up because they have ABUSED substances...
my buddy who got me started on the vitamin T, i mention him sometimes in my posts about how he used to abuse the shit out of orals since very early agev(ie. 3 years straight on/off M1T), well... last week he had a heart attack. it wasnt acute, he said it lasted for about 4 hrs and felt like someone was sticking tiny needles in his heart every couple of seconds. he has recovered since but things arent looking good for him, hes only 22
my co worker, she got diagnosed with kidney cancer. they dont konw yet if its in one or both kidneys. granted, this woman is the definition of a chain smoker, probably for the past 40 years (shes 56 now), and shes not an "idiot" and has accepted the risks associated with her addiction, but i think that you dont fully comprehend the damage you're doing till someone says " were gonna have to cut out a major organ cause its rotting, thats why you've been peeing blood for the past few days".....and then its too late
