I read earlier someone suggest to lift off the rack (about 6 inches off the floor) for the deadlift. It takes the legs out of the equation if its done right) after a few practice sets, i tried it. Kept the legs almost fully extended and did my 2 heavy sets - 345lbs - to complete failure. dies on 7 first then 6 on the second. 3 minute rest in between. I REALLY felt it target my lower back, and i felt a lot more secure. I train without a belt, but my back is my strongest natural group. Just thought id toss that out there.

Rack pulls are more of a PLing exercise designed to train the lockout portion of the lift and to teach one how to strain under weight. Best done for strength with bands looped around the bar.
However for BBers just do your DLs either off the floor or standing on a 2-4" box.
If you want to hit your lower back then do straight leg DLs but never train higher than 5 reps.

i usually do them off the floor, and incorporate legs. I dont use a box though,

partial dead lifts did a lot to thicken my back and don't hit my legs enough to mess with my split. I like 'em
Anybody using full dead lifts in a BBing routine? how do you work them in?
