difficult question to answer because any diet will work for anyone as long as consistency for diet, training and cardio is there.
That said, I've dieted on the following splits before (protein/carb/fat):
60/10/30 (5 cheat meals in 5 months)
50/40/10 (2 cheat meals in 5 months)
I came in completely shredded in the first one but was sooooo very hard mentally due low carbs and no cheat mealts.
The second one I didn't come in as shredded but was easier to handle mentally because I had carbs. If I am dieting for a show, I go with the latter but if just looking to drop a quick 10-20lbs of water and fat for vacation or summer or something, I go with the former.
Basically any type of diet where you are in a caloric deficit will work as long as tyou are consistent. That is the biggest factor in gaining or losing.
I have tried to ultra low carb thing and I just cant do it. I cant go more than 1 day on very low carb as I believe I am hypoglycemic. I get light headed and very weak on low carb. I have to use moderate carbs and moderate fats, and do lots of cardio to burn extra consumed cals. I dont mind it though, lots of hockey is fun.
This is a difficult question to answer as I would say it depends on the person's individual insulin sensitivity. If carbs generally make you sleepy and bloated low carb is the way to go and if they give you sustained energy and fill you out I would stick with a higher carb diet. I would never cut fat too low however. As long as protein is adequate I would say go with whatever you can stick too. It seems many people like low carb recently and I would say it's because the traditional 40/40/20 diet that was suggested for so long came from bodybuilders with great genetics and insulin sensitivity which unfortunately we are not all so lucky to have.
IMO best type of diet for fat loss would be consistent 6 meals a day high protein, low fat. No cheating, except 1 meal a week. And every week slowly reduce the amount of carbs in each meal. When in the 6th week of cutting, cut out the carbs after 5pm. Cardio in the morn 4x a week and Abs every second day.
