So, I was just checking my online banking statement. There was a deposit for $1000 and a withdrawal for $180 today. Since I'm in California and am unable to do either one, I figured something was up.

Called the bank up, got transferred to the fraud department. Some jackass is using my debit card info and tried to steal money from my account. I only had around $180 in there, so that's all he got.. though he started at $1000 and worked his way down... lol.

I have no idea how this person got my info. Only thing I can think of at this point in the machine at my previous apartment building that adds money to the laundry card. I was told that it showed up as a Mississauge transaction, and the deposit/withdrawal was also in Mississauga..

Anyway, just a heads up!

wow , good thing you cought it becouse he could have just kept tapping itno it often . $180.00 is enough and adds up fast .

is there any way you can get it back ? or is it gone for good ?

they have some machines they put over the card slot of an atm sometimes. It scans your card while you push it through and videotapes your fingers typing your pin. They can make a new card with that technique. Crooks are so ingenious sometimes

yup, i always look out for those devices.. it had to have been either a convenience store or that laundry card machine...

when i called them up, they told me it was flagged right away.. they cancelled my debit card, which sucks now because i can't log into my online banking.. didn't realize it would affect that. so i have to get a new one so i can log in again.

they told me the money will be compensated, 5-7 business days.. so that's good news too. $180 is still $180..

yeah it seems they're pretty quick to catch these things..

although, my sister lost her wallet on the subway a few months back.. not only did she have 3 credit cards in there, she even had the pin to one of them. this person that got ahold of it went to future shop, canadian tire and got $500 cash out of the machine. i think it was close to $3000 in charges. she got all reversed but the cash because of the pin being left in the wallet.

****in thiefs piss me off. when i find a wallet, i contact the person and give it back. i don't even take the cash if there is any.

I have a bank account with Scotia Bank myself....aside from that I worked the fraud department for some time at a major Credit Card company.--I know all the tricks scam artists use and con artist, cocksuckers work over time in engineering ideas on how to get to your hard earned money.

MANY years ago I was a bar down town, I ran out of cash LOL---so I headed out to the machine to withdraw: INSUFFICIENT FUNDS----I start to break into sweats because I knew that I had PLENTY of cash accessible to me.
I get on the phone (half drunk LOL) with Scotia Bank. The guy explained that my card had been scanned at some point, and that the system had picked that up, and that for safety reason the code of the card had been changed internally.
I will never know where or how, but somebody must have scanned a copy of my cards code in order to replicate and pull out cash.
I verified my personal info and passcode to the guy, and he was ABLE to over the phone activate my card again---and I withdrew cash :D

Here are a couple of tips that "do not keep all of your coins in ONE account:

-Have a credit card with a very small maximum, and use this card for shopping--1000.00 or so, BUT NEVER use a LARGE max card at gas stations or places where you may have fear
-HAVE a very small credit card for on line shopping--maybe 500.00 max, this way if you get scammed it will not be by much
-DO NOT use a debit card your main banking account.
--have a debit card for an account that has NO links to your big credit cards, NO links to your BIG bank account.
-Use a debit card that may have a limit of 500 at most, and ONLY put money into the card at the bank, the machine; NEVER by on line transfer, NEVER by teller account to account transfer.

Do not keep your money in one account, and you may limit the hit-should you ever suffer one.

I have more tips or ideas, and they will flow in time :D

last week was the 10th time my card was frozen due to possible card cloning. its getting very annoying now. i even remember the atm where i made th elast withdraw and will probably to there and yell at wh owns that convenience store. at least there is zero fraud liability on all of our debit and credit cards.
