There is this guy at my gym who is utterly jacked, and relatively lean all year round. He is about 5'8 and 230-240 lbs from what I can tell. He is one of the bigger guys in my gym for his height. This guy does almost every exercise completely wrong with horrible form. He throws his back into every curl, he leans all the way over on tricep pushdowns (with the cables), he doesnt do full reps on pressing exercises....etc. My question is HOW THE FU(K does this guy get so huge working out like this? He is obv on gear pretty much year round and most likely GH as well (as he has a nice turtle belly he gained in the last 2 years or so). Seriously though, how does one get such great results from training so wrong?

Is there a point in which it doesnt really matter, as long as you move the weight its working? I dont get it.....?

a lot of training doesn't look good but hits "his" muscles the right way? hes either a super genius or super retard, maybe you should ask him exercise specifics to see if he knows anything.

Even then he could just be some natural who "feels" his way through every workout. Which actually isn't that bad if you KNOW what you're doing.

Im sorry but I dont agree with a 5'8 dude having STELLAR genetics enough to be that big. I can see if he was 6'4+ maybe.....

Ofcourse he's useing, my point is if i trained like that, even on cycle, there is no way in hell i'd be able to look like that. He probably has good genetic's, is on juice, has a shitty program and still grows. I hate guys like that :hu

not really but you get my meaning.

form doesnt have to be perfect, a little cheating will help you get up more weight which will turn into growthh

i have a theory.

this might relate to the guy in your gym,

so there's these 2 old guys at my gym and they're jacked always lean all year round and they have bad form every exercise they do is partials or less then partials. My theory is they used to lift this weight when they were younger but now with age they can't anymore but they're still in denial so they still try to lift the same amount of weight.

Hey now... why can't short guys have good genetics?

IMO there is a point when form can be sacrificed for extra weight on the bar, but when I do this I always make sure that the eccentric portion of the exercise is long and drawn out.

Dropping the shoulder down on curls
Leaning back at the beginning of a lat pull down
Getting a little hip drive on barbell shrugs
All of those have been useful to me.

Although taller/heavier competitors statistically win more olympias than the under 200 lbs category short people can still have good genetics, infact you say that like there are only two kinds of genetics; good and bad lol.

Lee priest is an example of a really short bodybuilder, also shorter people can usually lift more because they have smaller arms/legs; and their gains are more noticeable since they have less of an area to cover with the muscle thats put on.

I am 6'1 and shorter guys piss me off. Mostly when it comes to arms. A shorter guy will have nicer biceps and triceps hands down over a real tall guy.

I'll second this, I have 36 1/2" sleeves and can scratch my knee caps.

I'd probably guess that the gear is carrying him. He might just be one of those guys who does a lot of AAS and figures that lifting heavy weights, regardless of form, will build muscle. Remember, high levels of anabolic hormones will make muscle building much much easier (obviously). Wasn't there a study which showed that even a sedentary individual will build muscle with a moderate amount of injected testosterone? The AAS would, I imagine, provide him with an enhanced ability to recover from what he's throwing (no pun intended) into his workouts. So he could probably afford to be lax in technique as compared to a natty and still be able to bounce back quickly. Would he get better results from better technique? Probably..? Will his bad form and abuse of his body through bad practices impact him when he's older? (ie. arthritis, worn joints, etc) I would think so..

just an opinion

im not saying short guys cant have good genetics. in fact i agree with the other posts saying that short guys fill out easier because they appear larger due to shorter extremities. i just dont think anyone who is 5'8 or less can have that much potential growth in their genetic genepool and stay that lean all year round. ive seen shorter guys who were very big and super strong, but these guys are pretty fat and carry a lot of weight around their stomach. thats fine if thats the way they want to train and diet, it doesnt bother me. i just am boggled when i see this guy lift weights to get the results he does.

Almost every video I have seen of pros working out was with some pretty horrible form. Over at MD guys like Ron Harris, Greg Valentino, and a few others who were sponsered/worked for the magazine (If that even counts for anything lol) said that they get better results from working out like this, and say that most pros do as well.

Actually the midgets poor form, and consistent lack of respect towards the sport, is actually a recepi to a lot of trouble in the future.

IMO cheating is ok as long as you know when, how and why it is....but to just cheat on every damn movement that itches your ass, is wrong, and misrepresentation of the sport to those up and coming.

I was at the gym a few days ago, and this young fella--probably around 19 or so, came to me and asked me to show him how to get a certain muscle big---I explained a little--imagine if I set him with the wrong form???
I'd **** him up for life with a real bad injury IMO
I am not saying that injuries do not happen while performing with perfect form, no, a person may injure themselves even while following the most strict form.

I believe that if you work out hard for long enough something someday will happen, just will never get any injuries the people that don't push hard.

But that isn't an excuse to be a slob on the gym and forget about the most basic thing: do it right or don't do it!

Cheated barbell curls are one of my preferred exercises but I don't do it all the time...
