View Full Version : Do you eat pork / ham?

As most of us know Pork has a relatively low bio-availability of protein compared to other meat sources. It tastes delicious but is somewhat counter productive to building muscle when there are so many better choices of amino's from animal / fish sources. I guess I'm just wondering who here eats pork regularly as a staple protein in their diet? Or is this a meat that should be avoided as much as possible? Thoughts....

Edit* If you do eat pork do you count the grams towards your days protein totals?

I`d eat some pork chops if they were offered to me, tastes pretty good with some apple sauce. Ham I`m not very big on. I`d eat pork chops over sushi.

I never touched pork until I was around 18 due to parents beliefs. I never liked it. Always thought it tasted weird.

I have tried it with Apple sauce. Does not go over very well with me for some reason. Even when I have sausage I tend to try to purchase only beef. Maybe I was brain washed as a kid.

Applesauce is the only way I like pork really. I'll toss some tenderloins in the slow cooker with some spices and they turn out pretty good.

My dad's the same way. My mom would cook it and mask it like everything and tell him it was anything but as soon as it touched his tongue he knew and refused to eat it.

I loved this stuff, especially the one with peppery edges. I can't find it at Sobeys anymore. It rocks in egg whites and in an Egg White Mc Muffin.

Im quite the ectomorph so 4k+ cals and I barely gain lean mass let alone bulk.
Bacon during breakfast, ham during the holidays is about it though.

thanks for all the feedback. i barely eat it myself, with the exception of the occasional strips of bacon. It seems a poor choice in comparison to readily available meats with a higher bioavailability.

I actually bought some canned ham as joke gift for my brother in law. Shit, I was laughing by myself in the grocery store the whole time thinking about it. I`m sure he will forgive me because the other gift is NHL 09 for XBOX 360 Yeah baby!!!

bioavailability is overrated. Pork is cheap gets a thumbs up in weight gaining phases from me.

I flat out love to buy a whole pork loin once or twice a year as a relatively inexpensive source of good meat.

I'll pick up a pork shoulder once in a while, too. It takes some effort to cut the meat away from the fat, but it costs next to nothing and you get enough meat for a huge stir-fry or stew.

I cook ribs on the bbq a couple times a year as a treat. I'll eat ham and porkchops if they are cooked for me, but I don't go out of my way to cook them myself. I am not a big fan of the taste. I can still eat chicken everyday, it helps to have 5000 different recipes for it. I do like the odd trip to the street meat vendor.

I eat pork chops several times a week. You're crazy not to since it's so cheap and easy to prepare and it's around ~30g of protein per 100g of chop. Just cut away the visible fat on the edges and you're good to go.

I don't eat bacon/ham though.

When I was in college I asked my biology prof about proteins that had been labeled, partial, high and low quality, and bio-available. He said it was all BS and that your body only sees it as protein and uses it as such.

Jules Winnfield: Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.

Vincent Vega: Yeah but bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste good.

Jules Winnfield: Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy mother-fu**ers. Pigs sleep and root in sh**. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eating nothing that ain't got sense enough to disregard his own feces.

Vincent Vega: How 'bout a dog? Dog eats his own feces.

Jules Winnfield: I don't eat dog either.

Vincent Vega: Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?

Jules Winnfield: I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy, but they definitely dirty. But, dog's got personality; personality goes a long way.

Vincent Vega: Ahh, so by that rational, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?

Jules Winnfield: Well, we'd have to be talking one charming mother-fu**ing pig.

i eat beef, chicken, fish (oily and not) dominantly. Then comes the ham and pork. I usually go for the best cut - the tenderloin.
