Had few bad pins in a box of BD. I prefer Terumo brand as they are always sharp and never had bad one (yet).

This is very unusual IMO

I have never encountered a dull pin head...and I've bought somebodies BMW with all of the pins I have ever bought in the past.

Just as an extra measure, I am sure most of you know that, once you introduce the pin into a bottle, the rubber stopper will kill its sharpness.--pull out the compound, then change pins.

If you can see the spot where you are shooting at, then face the opening of the pin UP --then push IN.
If you can't see the pinning area, then simply try, but becareful not to break the pin...if you are having difficulties switch pins; they are very inexpensive anyhow :)

This is the method i try to use, when using the Z track method you pull the skin tight before the injection which usually makes the needle go in easier. I find with a dull needle it wont push on your skin and all of a sudden poke through. with a dull needle it still hurts but not as bad...

Z-Track Method

►Administering Z-Track displaces the skin and subcutaneous tissue before giving an injection
►Purpose is to prevent a direct puncture route from the area the drug was instilled to the skin, thereby preventing leakage of the medication.
►The release of the skin and subcutaneous tissue after the injection creates a Z tract pathway of the puncture wound.
►Z Track technique seals the puncture path from the muscle to the skin
►It can be used for all injection sites

Use the nondominant hand to displace the skin and subcutaneous tissue 2.5 – 3.5 cm
laterally prior to the injection.
Release the displaced skin after withdrawal of the needle

time to switch to terumo my dull ones were BD

I get the same from BD .....every now and then a dull one.....

Sometimes get dull ones that make a nice crunchy sound when they are going in. I have had this for years and years with BD, so it isn't an isolated case.

I switched from BD a while back for exactly this reason.

I have had a few dull pins myself its bound to happen sometimes. I went through a couple pins this morning but that was just from hitting scar tissue.

I actually had a shitty shot just last Friday - the sucker just didn't want to go in. Once it did, it felt like I could feel it go through every cell on its way in. It was awful!

a lot of it is needle angle. you need to make sure you do not press the flat part into the skin. must be the sharp tip. its easy to press on a funny angle missing the sharp tip. especially when we have lesser flexbility etc.

From personal experience, I seen the opposite.

I switched to BD because the failure rate on the Terumos was quite high.

Yeah I get this sometimes. The only difficult area is the glutes because you can't see and I just feel horrified to push harder. Everywhere else I just cringe and push :P

lol i ran out o fpins one day, and had some 18ga. I said **** it, and blasted with it. I had 5cc to take, so two jabs. You had to literally puch as hard as you could, then POP it would go through the skin, and then it was a quick and easy shot after that LOL

I know you guys seem to be finding a lot of inconsistencies with BD product...but I've used them for MANY years, and out of all those thousands of darts I ONLY ever found one dull dart.

Gonna raise the dead on this one..

I've had too many dull pins in this box I have.. out of 12 shots almost half had dull tips or hurt going in. Last night was the worst. It hurt going all the way in, and even during the actual injection it hurt.

Got a big ass welt today.

What I'm wondering is, is it possible that the tip is getting dinged when the plastic cap is being taken off?

No its not the plastic. DB are the worst for dull needles,i even change the tip a few time to just get one shot in.I never have a problem with Terumo needles.

i doubt it is dull needles, but merely a bad injection angle.

think so? i'll pay close attention next shot where the opening is to get a good angle...see if it makes a difference.

BD brand? i've got a nice bruise now from the last one....

WTF?!

Now I don't know what the hell is going on... 3 needles and every one of them HURT. I gave up on the third and just forced it in (angle was FINE btw). This bitch hurt going all the way in, and during the injection. It also took longer to inject the oil than it usually does. This same thing happened with the shot before it.

Is this what scar tissue is? The previous shot is still slightly bruised and I have a feeling this one will do the same thing.. swell up and bruise.

AlbertaBeef
14-01-2009, 07:25 PM
Scar tissue makes it a bitch to get the pin in and then I have to push really hard to get the oil started threw the pin. No bruise for me though but I feel a lump where the oil is all pooled up and have to message it for a while.

14-01-2009, 08:16 PM
Huh, crazy it would happen so soon. Guess I should've been injecting in more places than my glutes. Damn....

ya sounds like scar tissue, not dull needles

buildinthaskinnys

I would like to add, that the tip of the needle is incredibly delicate, it only takes the slightest ding to actually bend the tip, this can be done easily
( I know ) from the glass of a vial.

Ok, so what exactly is scar tissue?

Does it make even the skin surface harder to penetrate as well as the muscle?

Seems strange to me that after only 5 shots it would be this painful/difficult to inject...

i doubt you have any scar tissue being your first cycle.

When I hot scar tissue, it is harder, and it hurts to poke through. But once you get going...no problemo.
When i hit it, I grit my teeth, wiggle the needle to cut through, and press through. Wakes you up in the morning.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing its scar tissue for the same reason.

Dunno what to think of it then... that many dull needles, one after the other, is pretty frickin ridiculous. I got em off eBay... maybe they're throw aways from a bad batch or somethin (even though I've still had a few that were fine), and this guy just stuck em all in a box. They came in a brown BD cardboard box, all loose. Is that how they're normally sold?

Could it be that the second bottle of test I'm using has a slightly higher BA content? It's from the same batch... I always let a bit of oil drip down the needle prior to injection. Every shot so far as swelled up, unlike the previous bottle I got used to use after a couple shots and didn't get any swelling.

Whatever.. **** it.. I'm sick of trying to figure it out.. just gonna suck it up and get over it. Ain't killin me.....

I've stuck to glutes for my first 4 cycles, and I'm already noticing some scar tissue. Sucks! This thread makes it seem like it's just the latest batch of BD needles that have the dull ones? I bought a box last year that seemed fine, but I found it took a lot of force to push my gear through a 23g.

Through my limited experience, I've found one or two that (now realizing) were dull or bent.... ow... lol
I see alot of guys seem to use 21's to draw and 25's to poke... if i read right.... I used 22's for both, just swithced pins after drawing of course.... 25's that much better... ???? (i went into my delts with prop btw)

21 serious?? ouch! i get enough post poke pain as it is.. i cant imagine how much itd hurt the next day for me if i used that gauge... though im sure most of the pain is coming from the contents in the syringe, however i cant keep a steady hand so the bouncing around sure doesn't help things out.

My last pin on Tuesday I was reaching around to plunge the juice in and got the crazyest cramp in my side.. so there I am needle dangling from the glute while im flailing around trying to uncrap..ended up bleeding a bit after the shot :(
