I'm worried about my med records falling into the wrong hands. If I make certian admissions to my doctor cant has notes on my med file be accessed by my employer or insurance agency should I die or become seriously sick sometime in the future? Serious question here.

Yes.. If you doctor writes it down it will be available to insurance companies and possibly your employer. For some jobs and for insurance, you must sign away access to your medical records or they wont deal with you.

This is my understanding of it anyway.

The one and only way any employer has access to your medical records is if you grant them permission. Even if you broke their rules and got fired for whatever reason only police could access the files with a warrant and even then they can not hand them over to your employer.

If anyone tries telling you otherwise call the Privacy Commission.

I was wondering the same thing when I approached my doc regarding my AAS use but i figured that I ought to care more about my health and be honest. I cannot think of any serious implications from telling her either, after all, use is legal here. It is just like choosing to smoke cigarettes or drinking alcohol.

I have asked my doc the same question. The employer needs your consent!!. Every time i go in to see him for something he always scribbles stuff down, when the secretary takes me in to the room and tells me to wait for the doc i always open my file to see what he has wrote down. I didn't want it to affect the chances of me getting life insurance or anything like that so i asked him if he makes note of what we talk about. He said that once i send my blood in to get tested its in the system for good and anybody can access it if they have to (not sure if they need permission for this or not)? I was open with my doc about what i took cause id rather be safe than sorry.....PS i use a different doc for when i get checked for anything that has to do with AAS....and a different doc when i have a cold/flu or anything in the lines of that

Documented steroid use will have an effect on your life insurance. You can't get life insurance unless you sign a form with the insurance company granting them permission to look at your medical records.

Best to not tell your doc about it unless feel you are gonna die or something.

Some employers require health record disclosure if you want to work there. If you refuse, then you do not get the job. Its that simple.

Exactly! As a former HR manager, you cannot obtain any personal information without express consent or court order, period.

Exactly, If you've told your doctor you will NOT be eligible for life insurance under ANY circumstances. They'll throw out your form as soon as they look at your medical history. But yes only if you condone it can someone access your records.

That's wrong. They won't throw out your form due to steroid use. However, they are likely to charge you a much bigger premium.

It was a figure of speech, but it depends on where you shop, I've have friends turned down because of it.

No offense but I find it hard to believe that the gear was the sole reason no one sold your body life insurance. All insurance companies have a risk matrix and gear is very low on the ladder. It's much more likely that your friend had other health problems which were the cause.

Each time you guys take out blood tests and get a flagged cholesterol/liver values, that's much more likely to deny you coverage than the fact that you use gear alone. Those bros that abuse our great healthcare system to 'check their gear' should think twice before you do it if you wish to buy life insurance down the road.

i can't remember my forms when joining a company, but on your disclaimer, wouldn't you have to tell the insurance company you're on medicine? As far as I understand, if something happens and you didn't tell them they can deny claims based on the fact you 'lied' on your original form. My one buddy told me to say yes I smoke etc even if you don't, like weed too... because if they ever do any analysis and find out you did then they can deny all of your claims....

not sure if this is true or not, just what i heard.....
