Sorry if this the wrong forum group guys.
Well guys, my treadmill motor blew today (atleast i think thats what it was). There was a popping noise then kind of a smokey smell. All the electronic stuff on it work still. Anyways, its about 5-6 years old and no warranty cus i bought it used. Im wondering if i should bother paying someone to come in and look at it and possibly fix it or woudl that be too much trouble/cost? I want to buy an eliptical now. My price range is $800 or under so any opinions welcomed. Also any opinions on waht i should do with the treadmill? Anyways id like to get a new one (eventhough ill have to get one of the worst models) but for elipticals do you guys find that there is a huge different between a $800 and a $2000 dollar. Im based in vancouver so anyone have any insight on a good company to buy from: Fitness Depot, Costco, Guideline......any input would be appreciated guys thank!

im in van... ive had a few. and ill tell you this:

do not buy an $800 elliptical. it will be junk. you wont want to use it at all.

minimum $1200. try and get a rear drive one. thats what you find in most gyms. either spend the $ and buy a refurbished gym machine which isnt hard to find or buy a high end home machine.

craigslist is your best bet as well as buysell.com for refurbed ones. youre also best to wait until February or so as everyone buys them for new years resolutions and never uses them. you can get one for $.50 on the dollar. i bought a life fitness one for about $1200 that was $2500 new and had <20hrs on it

even if u bought the treadmill used i would try contacting the maker. ALL motors no matter the company come with LIFETIME warranties.

if u really want to turf it, pm me. i have access to some last years models for treadmills and elipticals. give u a idea, treadmill, with built in speakers, 15% incline, 6 programs, heart rate, built in fan, 15mph, would run ya $700 if ya pick it up from the supplier.

Having spent 4 years in fitness retail the best advice I can offer is to buy a jumprope.

Service will cost you $80/hr + parts and a $800 elliptical is a toy. You may want to take a look a spin bike or maybe a used concept 2 rower. Both are quality pieces that you should be able to grab for under $800.
