So I am chatting up my boss in the office gym telling him I am going to find a decent trainer, not some CanFit Pro flake. To which he replies "My wife is one of those CanFit Pro flakes." DOH Well I am not sure was said next I was simply trying to backtrack and tread water at the same time. I can only imagine what would have happened if I called CFP people douchebags or incompetent FackHeads.

Lesson learnt......Know the background of the people you are speaking with before you open your mouth.

Trying to ensure that a personal trainer/coach is qualified is bloody hard.

There are no good certifying bodies.
A degree in kinesiology doesn't really seem to cut it.
Being huge may have very little relation with your ability to coach.

It's a conundrum. I am fairly convinced that a good coach would be worth more money than supplements to most of us but there are so many bad ones that identifying a good one is darn near impossible for a novice.

Hence why I'm getting into training others. Just got my ISSA on Monday, CPR C/AED yesterday, and will be getting my business license in the new year. I'll take a CF Pro and show them how to change people around. :D

i wouldn't get as upset with someone for voicing there honest opinion as i would for someone who tries to say what they think i want to hear, don't worry about it, theres a good chance he thinks more of you for saying it.

Canfit Pro is a joke. Just like Goodlife, another way for David Patchell-Evans to make a buck. I wish the Canadian Government would step in and develop a governing body for Personal Training. Maybe then I would consider doing it, but not with all the idiots walking around calling themselves personal trainers.

"I lost 10lbs and I feel good about myself...maybe I should become a personal trainer"...rediculous.

my buddy used to work at a supplement store and when he was on cycle people would come up to him and ask him to train them.... he actually made a good amount of coin, no certification necessary

i would just like to say that hes not one of those ppl who works in a supp store cause they need a job after school, the guy is actuallly very knowledgeable about OTC supplements /diet and training in general and he doesnt mind yelling at you in the gym

That's awesome! :D A lot of the people out there need the extra shove, and there's too many fruity personal trainers out there. One girl I've been working with over the last couple months started at 321lbs, and is down about 15lbs (6 weeks, no cardio, no weights, just dieting) and is happy to have the extra kick in the ass because she knows when I tell her something that I'm telling her the truth, and that's what she needs to hear.

She's structurally a very large girl, I think getting to about 150lbs would be a good weight for her one day. She's got back issues at current so we're holding off on some of the exercise until she's a bit better.

It would be nice to have a governing body, I love here in BC a lot of places are looking for BCRPA Certifications. To me, someone taking a 4 day classroom course and becoming a trainer is a joke, so I refuse to be a part unless I have to. Besides, what does the BC Parks and Recreation Association really know about creating transformations? ;)
