My girlfriend just started taking a product with hoodia in it. Seems it's the latest fad in the supplement world.

It's supposed to be an appetite suppressant. Has anybody here seen good research on this cactus extract?

Don't want her wasting her time and money.

Thanks.

What I have heard is that any of the north American sold stuff is crap quality, and really does nothing.

My girlfriends has taken a supplement with Hoodia in it. She says it sucks and prefers ECA stack.

Although the goal is the same = weight loss.
ECA and Hoodia shouldnt really be compared as hoodia is primarily geared towards appetite supression.

Demonwolf, the original craze for Hoodia stemmed from some scientific studies on patients who were issued doses of the "pure" hoodia extract of 5mg/kg per day. The results were positive and so the little cult culture took off. However, because the effective dose of the pure extract is 5mg/kg per day and crude extract 50mg/kg/day ...using the crude extract you would need about 5-6 grams a day for a 200+ man. The sythetic method for the compound wasn't scaleable. This would mean you could make big quantities but it wouldnt be profitable to do so. Id assume any product on the market are using a crude extract in pill form at ~100mg a dose which would do nothing for you in all likelihood.

An article by a favorite writer of mine:
http://cureyourbody.com/the_rise_and_fall_of_hoodia_gordonii_part_1_a_case _for_volume_of_distributi/

seems like another product that is great for the general public but for bodybuilders who are so used to controlling calories it is good for little else than making things a little easier.
