Hey guy, I know this is off topic but you guys are always good to go on advice.

So Im starting week 4 of the var/primo cycle. up 10lbs feeling fukin awesome. Tonight was chest and tris and I felt good. So I warmup with 125. Then bench 225 which I did last week for 6. I busted out 8 no prob without any help. Then I go for 245. I have not benched anything over 205 in the last 6 or so years. Anyways, first rep is no prob. In my head im psyched. I know I can get 6. Then my left side feels like a socket wrench unwinding. Loss of strength. No terrible pain but it did hurt somewhat. So I re rack and call it the end of the workout.

Im icing it now and really choked this happened with such a moderate weight. Maybe because im 30 I cant get away without really warming up etc.

Is this a tear or what? No discoloration but I bet its fuked for a week plus. Worst god dam timing!

Be VERY careful here bro ... these first few days/weeks are the most important. I did the same thing as you almost 3 years ago - but I was a **** head and continued lifting and doing BJJ through pain for about 6 months. By being a ****ing moron I turned a small tear into a shitnest of microtears right in the muscle belly. I havent benched anything of consequence since Fall 2006 and am finally starting to feel normal again after countless ART sessions, ice, and rehab excersises.

Stay on the cycle regardless because it will help mend it up quicker, but stay off chest for at minimum a week. Although your muscles are apable of lifting big weights on cycle, it doesnt mean your tendons are - take your time, and hold yourself back with respect to things like bench. Slowly increasing your #s is better because your bodys nervous system and connective tissue will be better prepared for handling the weight when the time comes.

Theres a reason you couldnt bench (x) when natural ... when it comes to the bodys capability muscles are only 1 peice of he puzzle, remember its a marathon not a race.

Ice that pec and keep your protein intake high and you wont have to go through what I did! Best of luck.

Wait till tomorrow and see if you have discoloration. You'll have inflamation for sure. Ice it regularly. Examine your muscle to see if you can feel a tear. If you are unsure, walk into a hospital and ask for help. The sooner you take care of it, the sooner you'll heal.

Don't get down about it. I went 3 months to physiotheraphy for an elbow injury. Couldn't even lift up a magazine without excruciating pain. I thought I would never be able to get back to the strength I had. I was wrong. I slowly got back and beat my old lifts. Even was able to do 95lbs dumbell curls with that arm. I used to get a little pain now and then but nothing serious.

Injury is part of the game. Your mind is the hardest part to control. Keep positive and take care of whatever happened. It might just be a strain but still needs to heal. Time off is definately recommended.

My good friend has a similar problem with his quad after 6 weeks of 600 mg of test e and 4 days of dbol. He wasn't concentrating and got a minor strain. Ooops. He's also managed to inflame a biceps tendon. He appears to have gotten stronger at a pace that is a bit faster than his body can keep up with and is starting to fray at the edges. D-bol has been dropped as his current theory is that outpacing his ability to grow/recover is not a terribly wise idea.

He has been alternating between compression and ice for the last couple of days and hoping for the best. He also figures that his muscles are extremely tight right now and that stretching will probably help.

A grade 1 strain won't bruise and will feel like cramping mild bruising. He did his warm up sets and 1 working set today of squats (exercised without straining -very carefully) and is feelling much looser today and hoping to resume exercise on his regular schedule.
If that doesn't work he will likely drop the weight 10% and accept the set back as turning a grade 1 strain into a grade 2 strain isn't all that appealing.

By the way (ART - Active Release Techinque) was my savior. I think a lot of you have seen me promote it through out the years.

You gotta warm up bro... ALWAYS... no matter what.. get the blood flowing.. I usually do the bar as gay as it sounds for 25 reps and just really work the negative and get a good deep stretch.. Then 1 plate, then 1 plate plus 10, then 1 and half plate.. I count these ALL as warm ups.. then move into my actual working sets... I do the same for all body parts.. A small pyramid warm up.. And FWIW, I"m in my 30's too and we need it bro.. Hope you feel better
