A Federal Court judge has upheld the government's decision to strip citizenship from an Ontario man for lying about his Nazi ties when he came to Canada after the Second World War.


Now if they were only to do this for all the people who come to Canada and engage in cocaine trafficking, robberies, assaults, and get caught.

I bet that immigrants probably commit less crimes on overage than native citizens, but it would send a good message to keep it that way.

I understand the concept, but c'mon.. Its been more than 60 years since and according to the guy he was only a conscripted translator. If he could prove that, I'd have no problems having that guy as my neighbor. We've got more dangerous criminals who should be dealt with before we use the resources to kick old men out of the country for the sake vengeance. That's just my opinion

The government ordered the deportation of a KGB conscript the other day and it was on the national news. He defected on the first opportunity he had but apparently he is a security risk so he is being sent back to Russia, along with his successful wife.

You can commit crimes in Haiti and Rawanda and have legal hearings and red tape before anything is done but if somebody comes from Russia or Germany they are given no benefit of doubt.

You guys probably think I`m crazy but screw him. We dont need Nazi's in Canada even if they are old now. We do screen criminal records for people coming to Canada and I dont think criminals should be coming of any type.....whether it be drug trafficking, robberie or assault.

Things that bother about this though are:

1) The government got involved initially in depriving him of his citizenship so there can definitely be political motives. Jewish groups are always complaining but he was a conscript. He was not a volunteer for the SS Hitler Jugend.

2) The evidence is ambiguous and he is being tried by association to one of the most reprehensible SS groups, the Einsatzkommando.

3) There is an air of moral superiority. Should the allies who were complacent in allowing the Red Army to murder German civilians be held accountable? I have heard well founded estimates that 2 million German civilians died when they were forcibly expelled by the Soviets from East Prussia, Poland, Ukraine, etc. It is this concept of "we are the good and they are evil" that contributes to genocide to begin with.

One of the biggest problems with the current system is that immigrants get landed status as soon as they their feet hit the soil. This makes it almost impossible to deport anyone who has committed a crime. There needs to be a period in which an immigrant proves they will be beneficial to society. If they commit crimes there should be automatically deported.
