The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Drug Section arrested at least eight individuals suspected of involvement in anabolic steroid trafficking during steroids bust as a result of Operation Jellybean in January 2007. The steroid bust disrupted hundreds of thousands of dollars in anabolic steroids sales throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and even Ontario.

Defendant Mark Anthony Haig pleaded guilty to five counts of conspiracy to traffic anabolic steroids and prescription drugs. At least two of his co-conspirators are standing trial for steroid-related crimes in the next few months (”Jellybean suspect pleads guilty to steroid charges,” October 23).

Mark Anthony Haig, 38, of Chance Harbour was scheduled to stand trial in federal court in the coming months on five counts of conspiracy to traffic in anabolic steroids and other drugs banned under the Food and Drug Act.

Instead, he opted Wednesday to re-elect to be tried in provincial court and then pleaded guilty to all five counts, which allege he conspired with several others between Sept. 19, 2006, and Jan. 23, 2007, to traffic in the illegal substances.

Among those co-accused along with Haig were Spencer Gordon Court, 32, of Maugerville and Ontario resident Vincent Gemmeti, who face 31 and 27 charges respectively as a result of the Jellybean investigation.

These are the various individuals charges with drug-related crimes involving bodybuilding-related drugs e.g. anabolic steroids, prescription drugs, and ephedrine as a result of Canada Operation Jellybean (”Update of Criminal Charges Resulting from Operation “JELLYBEAN”, Fredericton, N.B.,” December 21, 2007).

This article bothers me a lot. Obviously the focus of this article is around the distribution of anabolic steroids, which has been a very hot topic in the media lately. What it fails to mention is that operation jellybean all started with the investigation of a cocaine distribution ring, and during that they found all the other drugs being trafficked such as pot, steroids, etc.. Not to mention all the firearm charges that were laid. But what really gets me is they seem to be glorifying the rcmp for doing such a great job at this, but this investigation uncovered a bunch of dirty cops who were also involved. Where's the mention of any of that? The media picks and chooses what they show to the public

That's why I hate the media so much. Every writer has a biased view, or their chief editor does... but it's always biased. I can't stand it.

Update on this.

On July 23, 2009, J Division’s Integrated Proceeds of Crime Unit (IPOC) laid charges of conspiracy to launder and conspiracy to possess proceeds of crime against Fredericton area residents Spencer Court and Jocelyn Clark. These charges are in addition to drug charges stemming from Operation Jellybean, a lengthy joint forces investigation conducted by J Division RCMP’s Fredericton and Saint John Drug Units and the Fredericton Police Force targeting an organized criminal group involved in the traffic of cocaine, marijuana, prescription drugs and anabolic steroids in New Brunswick.

Mr. Court and Ms. Clark are scheduled to appear in Fredericton Provincial Court on September 14, 2009.

I'd like to see cigarette companies and the government punished for the lives they've taken from the most abused drug in the world and number one killer of human beings today. Numbers don't lie....goverment agencies do. Steroids don't even fall in the top 100 reasons for emergency room visits in North America?

I agree^^ like every other drug out there, if you "abuse" them youll pay the consequences now or later in life! Asprin, Tylonol etc....

It is never good to see the guys go down....we pride ourselves of the our work, we show our muscles, and we work hard...but we do do this because there are chemists and smart men that take their chances at providing a product...an illegal product I know.

I feel sad when I see people go down...I have seen a great amount of friends be jailed over the years. gawsh......
