So, I just got an order in from Inzer (needed some new stuff) and picked up a bottle of smelling salts as well. So I tried a snort just now. HOLY SHIT!

How is that supposed to get you revved up when it literally just knocked me on my ass? hahaha

Anyone else ever try smelling salts for training purposes?

Yes.

Totally awesome.

I use my thumb and index over the opening to gauge the amount of "nose torque" that actually escapes the opening and makes it to my nose.

I have actually never smelled smelling salts before but ive seen em like on tv and movies. Is it supposed to wake your ass up somehow? Can i bring some to the gym and sniff before squats haha?

That's the idea. Here it is with The deadlift:

Weird this thread came up, I dreamed last night I was talking about snorting dristan before workouts last night. Apparantely the canadian version one is better for some reason.

Great for heavy deadlifts. I don't like them for bench press. It's to much of a technical lift in powerlifting gear and getting too psyched up can work against you.

Can someone explain why a really annoying smell would help you deadlift?
I really don't get it.

found this on subject
The acceleration of respiration brought about by using smelling salts will make someone more alert, and could potentially revive someone from a faint. It may even improve headaches, which can sometimes benefit from an increase of oxygen to the brain. Headaches and fainting were the two treatments for which smelling salts were routinely recommended. However, ammonia fumes are not very good for the body, and prolonged exposure should be avoided.

Fumes from ammonia can be toxic if they are allowed to build up. Therefore, smelling salts should only be used in small quantities, and ideally in a well ventilated or outdoor area. When not in use, the salts should be sealed so that the vapors cannot leak out. Discard smelling salts with care, because ammonia is extremely toxic to fish.
