The owners of the SVN Canada in North Vancouver, British Columbia were arrested for allegedly selling the anabolic steroid methyl-1-testosterone (M1T) to teenagers. The arrest comes less than a week after an employee of ‘Your Vitamin Store’ (YVS Victoria) in nearby Victoria, British Columbia was also arrested for selling M1T. Charges in both cases involved trafficking and possession of a controlled substance (anabolic steroids) (”North Van RCMP arrest nutrition shop owners for alleged steroid sales to teens,” October 20).
Const. Marlene Morton said “a substantial amount” of a bodybuilding drug called Methyl-1-Testosterone was seized from Lower Lonsdale area shop SVN Canada, following a year-long investigation.
The store’s owners, Joao Melo, 28, and Sylvie Tran, 26, of North Vancouver, have been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and further charges are pending, Morton said.
Health Canada issued a warning in April 2006 advising all consumers that M1T was an illegal anabolic steroid. The recent steroid arrests may be the beginning of a crackdown on illicit performance enhancing drugs in advance of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
M1T was legally sold and marketed as a “prohormone” in the United States as an over-the-counter “dietary supplement” until the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2004 made it illegal on January 20, 2005.

Agreed. I have a feeling a "cleanup" will happen before the Olympics. Dig in guys, times will become very tough.

Dude, it's 4 years until the Olympics, This is probably more related to the Victoria M1T bust.

Re-reading the article, this part strikes me "The owners of the SVN Canada in North Vancouver, British Columbia were arrested for allegedly selling the anabolic steroid methyl-1-testosterone (M1T) to teenagers".
The RCMP must know that a big number of supplement stores across Canada sell illegal or gray market products under the counter, so I wonder if the "to teenagers" part plays a key role in the bust.

I agree, the investigation has to stem from a public complaint. The RCMp do not have the manpower to initiate this kind of investigation. Whether it was a pissed off teen who gave the information or a concerned parent after the discovery of the M1t in their son's bedroom it deffinately originated from the public.

This is their main argument, most of the time they don't care, but as soon as someone implies "teens", the cops start to freak out.
A cop (someone I went to school with actually) once told me that they don't care most of the times that "responsible adults" buy the stuff, but if they suspect that teenagers are involved it becomes a whole new ballgame and they would certainly start a big enquiry in order to take the sellers out as quickly as possible.
Once again the streets are safer again,so now i can take a long walk.

I know of a Golds Gym that sells the stuff. My buddy buys some and two weeks later I get a phone call asking why he has headaches and cloudy urine. The douches they told him the stuff was "safe" and that 40mg/day was a good dose.

reminds me of my friends, taking m1t for months straight, doing no research on it. they would get drunk and they would find it funny that it only takes 3 beers to get them hamered.

LOL this has absolutely nothing to do with the Olympics.
It has to do with SELLING TO A TEENAGER. Parents caught the bottles under his mattress flipped out and called the police. Which are obligated to investigate the complaint.
Now stop all the oh my God the Olympics are coming the cops are gonna go after juice guys now. This isn't communist china.
What a douche. He doesn't know what a vitamin bottle is for?

You could very well be correct.
However I think their is more emphasis on doping control in the Summer games given the larger amount of competitors, and the fact that doping is more prevalent in sports like weight lifting, track, cycling, etc.
Beta blockers is what they go after in biathalon in the winter games, but I am trying to think of what kind of half pipe snow boarder needs AAS. Weed is another story.
