Time to get your goods before prices change to reflect a lower Canadian dollar.
I have heard that the US dollar rally will probably continue for the next two months so it would be wise to buy goods that come from the USA now instead of next week when Popeyes has to order in new shipments at a higher price.

Why? It's not like anyone lowered their prices when the dollar was at parity... everything I saw was either the same, or in some cases more expensive. If people start raising their prices.. I say they can go f themselves and I'll shop elsewhere.

The reason prices did not drop this summer was a result of higher global demand for dairy products, and the increased cost for fuel.

Some people buy stuff online from the states so that is who I was targeting, but if Physique still has to pay 20% for a tub of optimum whey from the USA don't expect him to eat the cost up. Definitely shop around though and get the best bargain.

I always miss one thing or another... thanks for the clarification.

For the most part, deals can still be found. Especially from sources on here, and I'm grateful for that. I'd much rather support them than the chain stores any day. So if the prices go up all around, I'll stick with the locals.

As for shopping down south, I often find after shipping costs and the ass tax the border charges, things don't usually end up being any cheaper.

good post bowlcut. this is true what he says. i have already received price list increases from suppliers. my cost is set to go up anywhere from 6-10% on US imported items.

but i am choosing NOT to raise any prices and eat the increases out of pocket.

Are they blaming the price increases on the value of the Canadian dollar?
Aren't gas prices going down? Wouldn't that offset the difference?

Honestly, it feels like these suppliers use things like the CND $ and Oil as an excuse to raise their prices.... do they ever lower their prices?

I admit I was shocked initially when I saw the prices of whey protein when I started back up with working out 6 months ago. I hadn't bought a tub of whey for almost 2 years.

What about other supps, do you think everything is going to be increasing, or is it just whey?

I think most companies like UPS buy their gasoline on forward contracts, but I know airlines for use forwards and some are going to take a hit.

It is hard to say exactly where whey prices will be in the short run, but long run they are going up. If the bank of Canada keeps cutting interest rates everything is going to cost more.

One billionaire investor named Jim Rogers sold all of his US dollars and assets and bought Canadian currency so I think we might see our dollar become higher than theirs .

Good on Physique for not raising his prices right away. Timet o think of ways t cut costs.

melamine?

again. no MAJOR supplement company buys product from china!!!! It would kill there business if they did, especially with the melamine sickness that is going on now.

prices arent being raised on ONLY protein. its every supplement. as for the changes in the gas, now of my suppliers added a gas surcharge, they just changed the minimum orders. so before u order $300 worth of stuff and got free shipping, most changed to double that and they didnt have as good of specials this summer compared to years before. everyone was cutting corners to keep more money in their pockets.

bolicpower said to buy in bulk which is a good idea, especially if done when the dollar was par compared to the US. now our dollar is .78cents. its going to cost a lot more to import stuff across the border even in bulk. u might not save anything now.

stock up guys!!!! i have received more emails from suppliers, that say my cost is going up by 30%. I said i wouldnt raise prices above, but 6-10% raise to a 30% raise is a massive difference. It will be very hard to eat that.

for now everything i bought when the dollar was higher will remain priced as low as i can go. when i have to order stuff at the new price i am not sure what i will do. probably increase by 15% and eat the other 15%.

So you knbow this is ONLY on products imported from the states. Stuff made in canada shouldnt change to much, but who really knows.

What do you have that is made in Canada, brands, etc?

The USA is going get hit hard soon, but I can not say where our dollar will go. Most of the information out there is about the direction of US currency, but either way we are in for tough times.

well companies made pretty much in canada, are muscletech, allmax, pvl, interactive( i dont carry it though due to a falling out with my rep) blue star.

but i expect to see a increase on every company, as all protein powder is brought in either from the US or new zealand.

Man this is bad news all around... anything I used to buy or want to buy is costing way too much now compared to before..

I read some speculation that this is temporary and that our dollar is going to rise again.. I wonder if there's any truth in that.

USA dollar is probably going to tank after Xmas once companies are done covering their shorts, but it could be longer than that.
I just think there is some uncertainty about our dollar's position, but if less Americans are demanding Canadian goods and commodities then demand for our currency will drop and so therefore its value.

I say time for a gold standard.

By any normal standard, when a country starts printing money, inflation goes nuts and it's currency tanks. However the US is the default currency of the worlds only superpower, not to mention the rest of the world is in bad if not worse (iceland) shape.

This is a time that historians will spend decades writing about.
