Jose Canseco, whose book "Juiced", which focused attention on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball and led to congressional hearings on the subject, now says he should have never written the book and named names of alleged steroid users.

During the A&E Network program "Jose Canseco: The Last Shot," Canseco said he "regrets mentioning players [as steroid users]. I never realized this was going to blow up and hurt so many people."

Nothing worse than a rat like him. He was in need of money so he decided to throw some people under the bus and start a witchhunt not because he cared about "cleaning up the game", but rather because his bruised ego was hurt.

During the program, Canseco said he "wanted revenge" on Major League Baseball because he believed he had been forced out of the game. The book was his means of getting even, and he named names "to show I was telling the truth" about steroids in baseball, he said.

Among the names Canseco named in "Juiced" as alleged steroid users were Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro and Sammy Sosa. All three addressed the congressional hearing on steroids, with McGwire's testimony damaging his chances of being voted into Cooperstown and Palmeiro's unequivocal denial of steroid use haunting him when he later tested positive and was suspended.

Nothing worse than a rat like him. He threw everyone under the bus because his bruise ego and bank account were suffering.

The hypocrisy of this whole thing is that I do not believe for a second the team and league management didn't know of steroid use. The home run races put baseball back on the map after the strike. Everyone benefited, everyone should take ownership.

steroids are in every sport,even olympics.a lot of the usage is covered up by officials.As for rats,when people are put behind the eight ball,they will save their own skin.its human nature.even the most so called honest people,are dishonest when no one is looking.

Man, the olympics are the worst... the worst. If you ever learn about the history of the games, and I mean the REAL history you'll see the olympics are probably the home of the biggest scandals to never be heard about.

Positive test results have gone missing from locked safes, positive tests have been covered up, etc etc it's pretty wild.

larry10,u got it right man.a lot of people dont realize all the scandals that have been covered up in the olympics alone,and the lost files.lol.it is pretty wild when u do some reading.it just turns out when to many people see the scandle,then someone has to be the fall guy,scapegoat.etc.

Easy to sit back and cast dispersions on athletes caught doing whatever. In Canseco's case who the hell knows what really happened other than he was caught and made an example of. If I were part of a sport where everyone was encouraged and in some cases supplied with performance enhancing drugs and I were making truck loads of cash and then someone decided they needed me out! I'd be pissed too.

You are bang on. I know a former coach for the weightlifting team and he talked to Charlie Francis in 1991 or 1992 (Francis was Ben Johnson's coach for those who don't know). Granted Francis does have an ego, he said that Johnson was not taking Winstrol, and that it was planned out that if he had a good Olympics he would test positive.
I believe it because the rumour was that Johnson was taking furzabol, but also because the Doctors from sport Canada had told all the athletes what to take to mask their drug use. Had Johnson been on winny he would have been masking it like other guys in the field, and the irony is that Johnson was taking a fraction of whatever roids he was on compared to others.

Donovan Bailey is another guy that got away with his use. He always trained in Louisiana and was not tested to the same level of the rest of the team. He only won medals at one olympics and that is a sign of something.

Interesting that WADA now does not let athletes use the defence about taking supplements recommended by team doctors. In the early 80's a bunch of our weightlifters tested positive after taking supplements that were given the clear by our doctors, and they had to give their medals back though were not suspended.

As far as I am concerned doping controls do not work. There is talk that the Chinese weightlifting team is taking undetectable substances, possible some type of mysostatin inhibitor. Most likely they are taking IGF-1, slin, and other compounds.

it's always a race, i've also heard about gene doping etc...who know's what goodies the docs are making up for the teams/athletes that have tons of cash.....and baseball gets the black eye. Yea, like NO football player takes any gear.

You mean the No Fault League? Nah, only Shaun Merriman takes steroids. Funny the whole Carolina Panthers team was implicated but no media attention like the one surrounding baseball.

Lets all hope Joe Biden STFU about roids and maybe try to clean his closet first. Maybe there is something "un-American" about plagiarizing Joe.
