If I was a competitor in bodybuilding looking to one day become professional, would it be better to cycle hard and take 6 to 8 weeks off every 6 or 8 months (something like palumbo recommends i think) or just cycle for 16 weeks then go to hrt levels for 4 to 6 weeks. If any of you competitive bbers want to chime in, Id really like to know which approach you favor. Im just not sure whether it would be better to do a good pct and wait 6 weeks before i start my next contest prep (next july i have my first national competition which i just qualified for) or go on trt for a few weeks. Im really looking for a performance based answer, as my doctor is the one i trust for dealing with my health and bloodwork. Let's hear it bros...

It all depends on how serious you are on competing.

If very serious, then 12 to 16 weeks on with 8 to 12 weeks HRT (150 to 200 mg/week Test only), while running HCG at 250 to 500IU 2 days before each shot, assuming Cyp or Enanth.

If not serious, then 12 weeks on 12 weeks off.

Ok, i should get my contest pics in a week and a half. I really had to struggle to make the light heavies and i know im not anywhere near pro status (it was good enough for the overall though) yet but it is my goal even if it takes another five or six years, which is why im trying to develop some sort of long term strategy. Im just trying to figure out which way is the best way, not whether i really have pro potential according to my pics or not. I will post them though as soon as i get them though, i wont chicken out lol. I could offer some pics of the week before the show (depleted) though if youre interested.:hu

Look good bro!

Make those calves and forearms a priority though.

And again, it all depends on how serious you are in competing. You've got a good physique, good chest and back, legs look great (sans the calves) especially from the side, and good proportion. Waist is tapered good as well.

Thanks for the comments bro. I know i really need to bring my calves and forearms up. I never considered training them before i started competing so they are really trailing behind. I also had to deal with groin issues for the better part of the year which impeded my leg progress as I had a hard time training quads, especially with deep squats (ouch). But I guess making progress with nagging injuries is part of the equation if you want to achieve anything in this sport.

I really want to make bodybuilding as much as a priority as I can and I try to schedule my work so that Im not too tired for training (which means accepting a lesser pay). I used to be involved in other sports and have only taken weightlifting seriously for the past two years, so me and my trainer both think i could do well if i stay at it. Im just no juice expert and im trying to figure out which would be the best long term strategy, what other top bodybuilders do. Its hard to know because apart from these boards no one talks openly about it. Its also hard to distinguish between advice from a solid competitor and a semiserious trainer trying to get a beach body and who would never imagine entering a big show.

26. 5'10 light heavy (198 lbs). As most know that means shit though, the winner of the pro card in the light heavies this year at the nationals had the same stats as mine but looked way, way better. I need to be at least a heavy to compete at a higher level.
