For me it took off the pressure from my neck area or anywhere near it. As I had a C-5-6 Disc bulge once from doing bar barbell squats.

Since I tore my left hammmy badly back in July not much. I was doing 425 for 6-8 without a belt and usually 405 for 8-10 . Belted I didn't squat any more so I stopped using one. Now I use one because I am a little off balance and my ankle is still wobbly . I started using the Smith for squats and upped the reps to 10-12 . Usually no more than 4 plates a side , which is actually 375 instead of 405. I use a slower tempo and keeo my feet one foot apart. Hacks are now my main exercise. 6 plates a side for 6-8 full ROM . Sometimes DC style or just sets of 8-10 with 5 plates a side. I usually finish with leg extensions and go as heavy as I can for 6 reps. IMO extensions should be done as heavy as possible with full ROM and a good hold at the top. My hammies suck ass becase of continually injuring the left one . I won;t be putting up any hammy pics anytime soon. Calves suffered all summer because of two bad ankle sprains. Just coming back now.
Squatting heavy for low reps is challenging but IMO higher rep ranges to failure are a real gut test. I usually fail that tests but the other day I did 315 for 15 as my third exercise without a belt. Comes and goes.
Oh yeah , all lifts are clean and well off cycle. DC puts on the strength.
