Anyone following it? Melamine found in milk and to kill so far 4 infants and many sick. A LOT of food products are now pulled off shelves with milk products in there. Including many products that are exported.

I remember reading that China is one of the larger producers of whey in the world. Will this affect our protein? Discuss.

The protein I buy is guaranteed not to be Chinese made, so I am not so much in a worry, although it saddens me anytime I read such stories of contamination, especially if it is in the food chain.

As a high-class whey powder product, demineralised whey powder is suitable for infant growth, especially D90 and D70, mainly utilized for the production of infant formula powder.Between the years 2000-2007, China’s infant and young child formula milk powder market saw rapid growth. The market capacity had increased from 100,000 tons in 1999 to 495,000 tons in 2007, growing at an average annual rate of 22.96%. A further potential will be seen in the future in the infant formula powder market and demand will be at a high level.

google doesn't give info on china's export numbers, but there is a fair amount being imported from the states

The New Zealand stuff is good quality because almost all of their cattle are pasture fed and not crammed into feed lots like the stuff here.

I would not buy any food products from china. All that frozen fish is from Chinese fish farms. I don't trust them period.

I've been saying for years not to trust China... more and more evidence to support that.

Problem with Canadian products up til now is they haven't had to tell us where the ingredients came from. Maybe this will change.

I wonder where the hell my protein powder came from... sure as shit don't want it if it's from China.

I also do not trust anything from china, protein and other things, sad part is people still save a buck and order from there, I sure hope it does not go much further then this. Poor kids do not even have a chance.

The Government of Canada is actively protecting the safety of Canada’s food supply. The investigation into melamine contamination has been expanded to include other potentially affected products in addition to infant formula. Specifically, products made from milk or milk-derived ingredients that could contain contaminated product are being examined. Milk-derived ingredients include whole milk powder, non-fat milk powder, whey powder, lactose powder, and casein

Health Canada has also notified all licence holders and licence applicants for natural health products (NHPs) containing significant amounts of milk proteins, such as NHPs that are nutritional supplements or protein bars, of the situation involving melamine contamination and asked for information as to the sources of the ingredients they use. As an additional precautionary measure, Health Canada will be testing selected samples of various NHPs containing significant amounts of milk proteins, to determine whether melamine contamination is present.

So.. since China has no problem with poisoning their own people, I wonder what they are cutting raw steroid powders with these days?

the "product of canada" label is bogus until the end of the year. most apple juice is chinese juice cannned/bottled here and carries a "product of canada" label. honey is cut or is 100% chinese.

heard a story that they are bringing in chinese carrots to the holland marsh and bagging them and another "product of canada" is born.

thankfully harper ended that practice.

Wohoooo, long live corporate greed.

Just for sake of precision:

"The chocolate manufacturer Cadbury has recalled some of its products in Australia and Asia after tests found they contained the toxic chemical melamine.

Cadbury says the chemical was found in tests of several of its products made at its Beijing plant.

Those products were exported to Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan and have now been recalled"
