Never within the First Hour
Dr. Stuart McGill, a spinal biomechanist and professor at the University of Waterloo, warns people not to perform demanding exercises first thing in the morning. Since discs are hydrophilic, they tend to soak up water and swell overnight, and it’s much easier to herniate a swollen, water-filled spine! Therefore, McGill recommends to wait at least one hour after awakening to exercise. That is the critical period since your tissue is superhydrated at that point resulting in an 18% loss of strength in the spine and risk of injury is heightened! That includes stretching.
Get that water in first and some quality BCAA and Glutamine then train your ass off.
I do 30 minutes on an eliptical upon waking almost every day.

who the fukc can get to the gym within an hour of rolling out of bed? i dont think this is a situation most people have to worry about. i prefer working out in the morning because, for me, it feels better.

I'm so dead in the morning.. the earliest I can workout is after lunch.. but usually ends up being after work.. go figure.. when I'm the most tired... good 'ol caffeine. Maybe that's why I can't sleep... lol.

ah yes, you need at least 1.5 hours to do your make up and hair and iron your clothes before going to the gym.
morning workouts really make my penis soft. i dont understand how people can wake up at 4 am and go for a 1hour run before their 9-5 job. Well I do actually, cause like us, it's a habit, and a part of their lifestyle. But for me, after a work out, i want to have a shake, eat again in 30 or so minutes, a shower, and then seriuosly want to collapse. I definately wouldnt be able to start my day with a workout. Really wouldn't give me energy, although lately im thinking of giving it a try for a couple weeks...

yup
im in the gym within an hour of waking up and have went over 600lbs on rack pull and over 400 off the floor.......same thing with squatting and benching heavy.......never had a prob....i do a lot of warmups however.......

i gotta agree with you, ive done the same, heavy squats within a hour of awakening and no problems....as long as u do alot of warmups and listen to your body, youll be fine.....its just common sense, obviously nobody gonna wake up and deadlift 600lbs right away,lol

Same here......well except the 600 pound rack pulls,that might hurt me no matter the time.lol.

I've heard that you just need a few times to get used to it, and then it's fine. I personally feel great when I train in the morning first thing, gives me a buzz for the rest of the day.

I roll out of bed at five take my superpump wait about 15-20 min walk down stairs and hit the weights every morning! I find I get a better workout in the morning then I do if I wait till after work.

Test levels are higher during the early morning yet I'm not one to have sex in the morning (mid afternoon sex with a nap after is glorious but kids but the brakes on that)
As for working out mentally i'm just not up for lifting early and did some martial arts a while back and the early morning sat. workouts were not good. first off my body was super stiff and mentally groggy.
I give my hats off to those joggers I see at 6:30am when look out my kitchen window filling up my kettle for some tea.
Morning is fine however I would have a meal in 2 hours prior to hitting the gym to allow for proper GI transit and to get the proper hormonal mileu working in your favor.

I have a hard time carrying my own weight out of bed in the morning, so I cannot even start to imagine lifting heavy in the AM.
My training schedule is usually from 9:30PM to 10:45

im way way stronger in the evening.. i have no science to back this but for my case.. i have to train later or im weaksauce.

so....how close do some of you live to the gym that you can be lifting weight within an hour of opening your eyes? have a shit, a shower, a shake, get dressed, let your dog out if you have one, then drive to the gym, load up a bar and get started.

not that I'd do that, but in my case it's a simple trip down the stairs to get to a gym

Wouldn`t it be cool if they would build a complex right beside a gym for bodybuilders only to live. Knowing if you ever needed a syringe or scoop of protein you could rely on your felow mate. Not to mention the fitness bunnies who would be attracted to such a place. Although I prefer the chunky ones. The complex with grocery store would be connected to the gym by a tunnel. Would just have to keep an eye out for gays jerking off in dark corners as the muscle boys go by... This way in winter, you wouldn`t have to take your boots off and put them in your locker, then when you open your locker is stinks... One day I shall build such a place, if only I had a catchy name.
