Just want to say I`m not a fan of rap. However, have you seen the clips on youtube with ronnie and some others training, there`s some lound Wu Tang or DMX playing in the back, gets me pumped just sitting there. It would be awesome though if the gym played metal and that kind of rap for training. But no, instead they play britney spears and all this other roody pooh crap. The worst is when you hear some KC and Jo Jo shit, I mean c`mon I`m not trying to bust one out here, I`m trying to bust one out... I never train without my music.

"...good rap tunes for lifting."

In my opinion, no rap qualifies as "good".

In actuality, there is good rap music, but no rap music qualifies as "good for lifting". None.

Surprisingly enough, I know a LOT of people at the gym that train and lift to RAP music. I even saw videos of Coleman lifting to some RAP and HipHop.

That may not be the music you and I lift to, but it is not objectively set in stone that you cannot lift to RAP music. In fact you can lift to any music that help in getting you into the zone, even if it is classical music.

Meh.

These guys are good lifters/BBers in spite of the music they listen to, not because of the music they listen to.

I just wonder how much better Coleman would've been if he'd listened to proper music during his workouts.

Exactly, I mean the music is just another tool in your arsenal to get you into the lifting zone, and I say, whatever works for you and gets the job done is acceptable.

I can see some people turned off by heavier music, and instead of being motivated, they get a headache from it. If you listened to RAP all your life, and it defines a bit the style of the life you lead, then it is hard to separate yourself from it at the gym.

Frankly, I lift to whatever music is playing in the gym, and most of the time it is some lame-ass pop song a la justin timberlake or something of that nature. But come to think of it, once I lift, I don't even hear the music anymore...I am into the zone.

From Ill Bill's newest album, The Hour of Reprisal:

Track 8, "War is My Destiny" feat. Max Cavalera.

That shit gets me going. Wish the whole album was heavy like that one...

But don`t you think you`d have even better workouts if you lifted to music you like? Man I get annoyed when I hear this gay ass madonna shit playing, I can feel my nuts shrinking lowering my test levels...

Frankly, I don't know because I never tried it.

Might bring in an mp3 player one of these day to give it a try.

While I agree 100% with your post I must point out that 99% of people who listen to rap pretend to live the life of which rap 'music' glorifies. Unless you are a black male living in an urban center you have no idea how the 'life' is lived. All I see is a bunch of middle class white kids pretending they are poor black kids. Now and then I hear a guy say " I like the beats" Oh yeah , you are listening to a ****ing machine that any dummy can program. If you truly like beats then go listen to to some Reggae ! Real balck musicians playing real ****ing music ! Therein lies the joke which is rap . False posturing . I must say that I did like The Beastie Boys back in the day but they sure as **** weren't pretending they were gangstas either.
I noticed recently that I can listen to any crap my gym plays as long as it isn't top 40 fluff or ****ing Nickleback (same thing I guess). My gym recemtly tunred to an alternative station duting the hours I train and it's not bad enough that my workouts suffer. They shouldn't suffer through anything but some shit is too much. My most intense sessions come when I'm in the basement doing deads, benches and squats alongside some good rock and roll music.
I can totally see why people can't listen to heavy music for very long or at all. I myslef can't stand Slipknot or these other heavy bands that are popular. I don't get new metal at all. I still respect that these people bothered to learn how to play an instrument .
Sorry for shitting on rap in a rap thread lads. It's a bad habit that I just don't cae to kick.

Had he listened to ACDC , Led Zep, Maiden , Priest, Sabbath, Ozzy , Skynryd, CCR, The Who , The Stones, Van Halen , GnR, etc etc he would have won the Mr O until he was 73. Just a guess.

I know exactly what you mean Angus. But I think we are getting seriously off topic. The poor guy asked for some RAP music to train to and here we are criticizing the genre he listens to :D

I was thinking the exact same thing, but Rap is so easy to rip on... In all fairness here`s a rap tune that gets me going from Jay-Z with his hot ass bitches and all.

I listen to pretty much everything, although you can tell its usually hatebreed that motivates me, but heres a good rap tune to work out to,

Its called "On the Eve of War" by Jedi Mind Tricks

Other than that, wu-tang, house of pain, cypress hill, depends on the mood really.

I too listen to everything... Rap gets me fired up with a good bass line, it gives me that extra lift once in a while. Whatever works for you is what you should use.. Quite frankly listening to old 70's and 80's stuff makes me feel old.... Just my opinion.. It also keeps me up to date.
