View Full Version : Brock Lesnar VS Randy Couture Vote

Ok, since it seems we don't have one, I'd like to find out where the majority falls on for this one.

I will jump out in front. Lensar will take it due to the fact that Randy is just...hmmmm...old and hasn't fought in what..2 years? Also he's giving up a lot of weight and size to Lesnar.

And for the record, I had picked Mir to beat Brock :D

i have Brock to win as well, ONLY due to Freak size and just GNP Randy, i dont thnk Randy can hold him down and Brocks Cardio is definatly there. But i dont think Brock would win against Nogera which would be next.
I like randy, but imo just to old and ya , i think ring rust also comes to play.

Randy has so much more experience fighting top guys. Randy had a far more well-rounded skill set. Randy is a master of designing and executing the perfect game plan. Lesnar has the advantage in size and (presumably) strength, and he is a legit top amateur wrestler with big fists... but that's really it. Randy will take this one, and it won't be close.

I put my bets on Randy... for sure.
he is an insane fighter, who i have waited patiently to come back to the UFC.
my two favorites are Brock and Randy... this should be the fight of the century in my opinion.. can't wait...

ring rust cannot be over looked, Randy has been out for far too long, this is purely for the money. When Randy loses, he can retire and Brock will get the respect he hasnt gotten.. and everyone wins!

Brock knocks out Randy @ 2:23 of the 3rd round

Has everyone who is on the size train forgot about Randy taking out the other big dope?
Sorry boys, but when it comes to MMA size has been proven again and again to lose out against experience, training, pateince and overall ring savy. Brock, "I'm a big dope" will only win if he gets lucky with a punch which in any fighting senario is possible. If this happens it would be unfortunate because it would fuel the turnip heads ego to thinking he is all that. Just my thoughts.

gustavo77
14-09-2008, 01:59 PM
I gotta go with Randy on this one. Just for the simple fact that he has pulled out some amazing wins in the past, in fights where people thought had no chance of winning. I still remember when he beat the piss out of Vitor Belfort years ago. No one thought he had a chance against Vitor but Randy beat that boy down hard.

I don't think you can call ring rust on Randy. He came out of retirement and thumped the great big Silvia.

yeah but dude, Randy was getting divorced and his head wasnt in the game.. cudos to him for winning and devotion and all that - but come on, Tim Silva aint Brock and where is Tim Silva these days.. aint in the UFC hes gone - Tito as well, so those old timers are out and in comes the new blood. Besides the only reason THIS fight is happening is because they couldnt get the Randy VS Fedor setup. Either way, as if Randy would win, come on think WWE. Randy aint the face of UFC anymore. Its the younger guys.. maybe not brock but it certainly aint Randy cause hes older and not much matches left in him anymore.. reminds me of Matt Hughes.

Should be a good fight.. but this fight is strictly to set up Brock and to close the book on Randy.. imo.. :)

Brock is simply an animal and after his slip up with Frank Mir I think his submission defence is getting better and he is as vicious as ever. I`m calling Brock to win with some sort of stopage.

Monka
19-09-2008, 10:06 AM
From what i see, Brock can control, but to finish, no way yet. He needs time to learn defense, and who knows, his strength /size/quickness/ will keep him going. He does not seem to be like Bob Sapp and gas out quickly. I think might just sit on top of Randy for all 5... Now, like Randy is know for, upset!!. K/O Brock somehow or if he can submit him but his arms are so friggen big. Now IF Brock wins, i dont think he'll have a chance with Nog, as Nog been in wiith the toughest of people, and Big dudes are his speciality.

trykillthis
20-09-2008, 11:00 AM
Maybe its because he has had 3 fights and lost 1 of them and all of a sudden he has a title shot. How does that work out? Its just Dana trying to hype up the UFC with a WWE stuntman. When you have other great fighters that deserve a shot at it and you take the new guy with a bit of a buzz it starts to undermine your credibilty as I see it. Doesn't Nog have the interim Heavyweight belt?

MuSuLPhReAk
20-09-2008, 05:40 PM
It should have been Nog and Randy. But Dana knew that he could make more money with Brock and Randy. Anyway, Nog would have won. When Brock beats Randy, it'll be a Brock VS Nog fight and the same thing will happen as with Mir.

MuSuLPhReAk
20-09-2008, 05:41 PM
But I do admit, I am interested to see the Mir VS Nog fight. Both are very skilled. I give the edge to Nog as he's super experienced and tough as nails but Mir does have a good chance too.

I pick Randy... cause he's Randy friggin Couture... He's the man. But, I would definately say that this will be a fight, and a really good fight, and Brock has a great chance of winning.
The dudes a high end wrestler and athlete... a pure monster that can move like he;s 200 lbs... He gave up the WWE spotlight and $$$ to drive around a little red POS car, and train 6-8 hrs a day. His last fight he looked really really good, powerful and scarey. Lets not say he's the sharpest knife in the drawer or anything, that knife tatoo on his chest is retarded... but I think he's got a legit shot.

I cannot even pick a winner for this one......I would have to say it's a toss up....if I had to choose I would go with Randy just strictly based on octagon experience. I'm sure Brock will be the champ one day but just needs a lot more experience......IMO he should not even get a title shot!

There are rumours going around from people on the scene that Randy looks terrible: small and drawn. Further rumours are that he had his left arm in a sling two weeks ago. I'm legit nervous about this now.

This fight could very easily go either way !!

BUT...Lesnar has done nothing to deserve this title shot...period.Granted he is an awesome athlete, and given a bit of time and dedication may prove his MMA skills. For now,his brute power and speed will get him just so far.....

For what it's worth, here's the preview I threw together for Inside Fights:

Randy Couture vs Brock Lesnar:

Reports from those on the scene indicate that Randy had his left arm in a sling less than two weeks ago, and that he doesn’t look to be at full strength at the moment. That has me nervous, but I still think that Randy’s going to win, and here’s why:

Randy will not panic, because Randy does not panic. Randy will not turtle, for similar reasons. Randy will remain calm, and continue to think clearly and follow his game plan regardless of how powerfully he is taken down or how hard he is hit.

Lesnar is naturally gifted, and he is an NCAA champion. I understand that, but: He isn’t a well-rounded MMA fighter. He isn’t an experienced MMA fighter. He is overconfident. (Just listen to - or read - his comments about Fedor. Just watch the manner in which he tastelessly mocked Herring after failing to put him away). He will rush in blindly.

Put them together:

The gifted but overconfident MMA tyro who will rush in blindly. The cagey veteran fighter who has seen and experienced it all, who will not panic and will not turtle, but will calmly and assuredly apply his well-thought-out gameplan. The NCAA champion who is most likely counting on being able to overwhelm his opponent vs. The Olympic Alternate who will not be overwhelmed.

The young man with tremendous natural tools who has not yet needed to develop a full arsenal of technical tools. The older man who knows how to find holes in his enemies armour, and who certainly has the technique needed to exploit any available weakness.

Couture, R4, KO

Kenny Florian vs Joe Stevenson

Florian could cut Joe Daddy up with an elbow, or he could catch him in a choke. If Stevenson can maintain control of Kenny on the ground, he could pound him out for a TKO or decision victory. It really could go either way, but…

Florian, R3, Sub

Dustin Hazlett vs. Tamdan McCrory:

Tamdan “The Barn Cat” McCrory has a GREAT nickname. He is very tall for his weight and therefore unusually rangy. Reportedly, he was overpowered quite convincingly by Pete Spratt on the undercard of UFC Fight Night 10, but managed to pull off a slick triangle submission for the win. He beat Luke Cummo at UFC 87 to take the unofficial title of “World’s Toughest Geek.” He’ll defend that title against Dustin “McLovin’” Hazlett, who pulled off a tremendously sweet whizzer-to-armbar transition against Josh Burkman at the TUF 7 finale. I like Hazlett in this one, but hope to see yet another slick submission either way.

Hazlett, Sub, R2

Gabriel Gonzaga vs Josh Hendricks

You never know what to expect from a UFC newcomer, and Gonzaga is totally inconsistant. Still, every time I hear Gonzaga’s name I get a frightening vision of Mirko Cro Cop’s leg twisting grotesquely beneath his unconscious body.

Gonzaga, R1, KO

Demian Maia vs Nate Quarry

“Rock” Quarry is a solid guy, a good striker, and a fairly well-rounded MMA fighter. Maia is one of the best BJJ guys on the planet. Obviously, Quarry has a puncher’s chance, but if Maia catches him it’ll all be over.

Maia, R3, Sub.

I'm sorry but Randy will not KO Lesnar, if anything submission.

I was thinking more along the line of a TKO, probably after Randy breaks Brock's will by showing that he simply can't be dominated and then takes Brock beyond his physical limit by continuing to push the pace... but yeah, Randy doesn't generally knock guys out.

Gord-o I wouldnt even give him that much credit...he's a **** head..big mouth and doesnt even deserve to be in the same ring as Randy..his skills (MMA)suck shit from what I have seen..his stand up is as good as my daughters. he's a ****ing joke....the only way a **** head like that will beat Randy is with a lucky shot to the head..the only way!!!!!!

I don't have much respect for Brock as a dude after the way he disrespected Herring and then mouthed off about Fedor... but I have to acknowledge that he has tremendous physical gifts.

I sincerely hope that Randy can teach him a lesson in humility (not humilation, humility) and that Brock can learn from what Randy teaches him.

Brock will throw him around like a puppet. Randy's style doesn't match up well. I don't think it will be a very good fight. Brock controlling but not having enough experience to really do anything. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's a good fight but I don't see Randy winning.

From reading a few of your posts I'm starting to think that you may not be the president of the Brock Lesner fan club:) I'm hoping for a Randy victory....but not too confident that it'll happen. But then again I wasn't confident he'd beat Sylvia or Gonzaga either.

I got RANDY in the first 4 minutes with a submission. Lesner is just way too inexperienced imo to beat such a great fighter.

IF Lesner can beat him it's only because he's getting older and not in his prime anymore. Size doesn't mean crap when the other guy has so much more experience imo.

Nog will destroy Brock either standing or on the ground. i have to agreee on the ground FOR SURE , BUT i'm sure if i was at brocks camp obvisouly you'd be teaching take down defense and the haymakers.. like i think NOG will win, BUT imo they'll be traing brock to have that punchers chance, For NOG, he has to weather the storm at first and get Brock to ground and pull off a sub with Brocks LEGS,just his arms so big... like when he found bob zap, he was getting thown everywhere and couldnt belive Nog took all that damage. i dunno, i think nog will win, but IF brock does i belive it will be due to a K/O.
LOL, i'm sure Nog will be glued to Brock to avoid getting hit, and if Brock thinks he can put Nog on ground and just pound, lol he'll be tapping fast....I just dont know how Nogs body if lately like many years ago, he could take absue but not sure now how he is phyicaaly...
I was also surpised Brock didnt' go crazy when he was cut, kept very cool about it. just when with flow. I think Randy did well enough, but to give up all that weight, and imo BJJ is the trick for brock, he has to learn to avoid. and who knows. might be around a while? brock is just too big and powerful to fight a 220 pound guy
imo i think the ufc should make a super heavyweight division 250 + and heavyweight 205-250
last night brock was probably 275 or more and randy was probably 220 or less.

Brock KO Nog?? If CC and Fedor could not KO Nog with those shots he took what the hell makes you think Brock can?

And lol at that pic Bam. I hope not, i just feel brock didnt' pay his dues i guess. Like at first i considered him, like eliteX (kimbo) but they put Brock with with tough dudes... MiR, well, i had a big feeling Brock was going to lose fast as i knew brock would try to get on top of him somehow. and pound, but from the gard even MIR can do lots, BUT when i watched he rocked MIR and i think if he playe his cards right might have won..... then with Hearing, **** me, the first pounch, to make that big man roll backwards and to dominate like he did the whole match then really made me think, ok he's' good wrestler ( i know he was champ) but he just dont' know how to finish., Now with one on the greatesy men/fighters (but not in prime) of all time, we learned Brock can take a shot (and he did), and now that he has, imo cuts shouldnt' bother him as much. like some freak when hit, or get worried... but now with Brock getting hit, he didnt' seem to concerned. i know those Brock ppunches didnt' look like much, but they WERE hard not alll out punches but figure all that weight, even that punch/elbow stagered Randy. At first i considered Brock more of a side show.but now theyway he's handleing himself, seems to be more. then a show, like imo, even with size diffrent, i thing Nog is BJJ wizard, so thats a bit yes, i think NOG can get k/O'd, iknow he's fought waaaaaay better dudes but a k/O can come anywhere anytime. and with that weight, imo Brock can do itl. but if he leaves ANY limb out there, NoG will be there to take it. i don't think brock is schooled enought in bjj yet to defend with a Nog. but ya a ko is possible but not likely, i'm expecting Nog to win by submision down the road unless, brocks camp keeep him learning fast. just a monster.

whats surprising about brock is how fast he can move for a guy his size,he is a work in progress so he will prob lose fights in the process but hes beaten some good fighters while learning so you gotta give him credit for that.

I doubt it, he's gonna knock out anyone who gets within reach. All he has to worry about is stamina. He's big enough and certainly strong enough to silence any jujitsu attemps and he is deffinatly smart enough to learn how to roll out of a leg bar by now. That is the OUtlaw division, and he is the perfect King of the Hill for it. The dude moves like a lightwieght, and is aggressive as a Baboon in heat, he is gonna ****in steamroll that division.

Whatever, lots of Lesnar haters on here! Lesnar is a ****ing beast, great athlete and has superb work ethic. Reminds me of the Russian from Rocky 4. LOL
