Anyone use a specific shoe for squatting? Any recommendations? I was thinking of using Jordans or a similar basketball shoe, but right now I am using Chuck Taylors. Any input would be great.

I prefer using boots as they provide more ankle and arch support with a solid base for squatting heavy.

I've never squatted with boots but I have found the flatter the sole the better . I've never understood why some guys put 2.5 or 5.0 lb plates under their heels. Be as flat as you can with still having some support.
Get the new balance vibram shoes without the five toe gimmick. You are basically bare foot and super low to the ground to allow for maximum hip mobility and stability.
Anyone who squats with a plate under their foot is a retard and likely to damage their achilies. They likely also engage in crossfit lol

To be completely honest, I use shoes that have a slight incline upwards from the arch of the foot to the ankle but I think this is just personal preferance. I used to use high top vans to squat (basically the same thing as Chuck's) but I found that coming up from the hole I'd end up shifting most of my weight to the middle of my foot or on the arch. With slightly elevated heels I find I can dig my heels in more and get a stronger and much more stable push on the concentric of the squat. The incline is really small in the shoe, nothing like putting 5 lb plates under your feet however like I said I think this is just a preference of mine.
Boots sound like a really good idea Prae, what kind of boot do you use? Merrell boots perhaps?

The boots I use are built similar to actual quality squat shoes ie Inzer etc. They have a solid hard base with arch support, no steel toe or plate and fairly flat. Walmart carries them and they run about $39...basic black 8" boot. Once you start using these you will never use anything else...trust me!

Squatting with a 5 pound plate under heal is using the right idea, but not something I would do. Flat foot squatting might work for some, but its not an ideal position for most people. Instead of putting a tiny lift under your feet, get a good quality squat shoe. Flat soles, with a slight lift under your heal. I would never go back to squatting without mine. I bought some Pendlay Do-wins,

I needed these because none of the other brands fit. Reebok, Adidas, etc - none were wide enough for my foot. I measure at a size 8 6xE so my feet are almost wider than they are long, lol.

Has anyone squatted in stocking feet?
yes i've done that before, i found it hurt the balls on the bottom, espially with heavier weight. i love chucks because i can still feel the ground and it feels more natural than using anything with thick soles.
