Quebec's decision to stay out of the upcoming national organ-donor system received a chilly welcome in the province Wednesday.

An organization that advocates for patient' rights said the province should leave its constitutional claims aside and put Quebecers' health first. The provincial government explained its refusal to join the pan-Canadian system by saying health is a matter of provincial jurisdiction and that Quebec had more to lose than gain because it has its own organ transplant agency.

Gotta love Quebec.

Another example of when politics interferes with good policy.
My brother used to work on a transplant team and said that red tape and poor centralization can cause timely delays while patients wait for organs.

That's retarded. More people means more chances you can match up an organ to someone who needs it. Politics should never get in the way of saving lives. It sounds criminal to me.

My fear re: this issue is that they want your organs so bad, they will pronounce you dead earlier than they should just so they can start scooping organs out of you. My hypothesis is that if you say no to donating, they have nothing to gain from your death and might actually work on your a few extra minutes to keep you alive.

I have read some real life horror stories about this.
