Man, a few samples of this week... one of those broomstick was with a new customer, loaded 5 plates on each side of the leg press for this 120-130lbs girl and told her to press that for 2-3 inch deep reps with full straight legs in lock-out on each reps. Another one was yelling to his customer that was doing barbell curl : ''PUSH, c'mon PUSSSSH!!!!''. And there was this one that was holding a 40lbs pre-set bar like an axe over his head and was moving it oddly like if he was going to hit with it or something like that and then was doing shrugs with DBs and was focusing on having a perfect round back, as much round as you can!!
It's unbelievable what I see and once I tried to talk to the manager about this and was rebuked big time ''Here, we have only the best of the best, they all are experts and knows what they do, they have extensive formation, blablabla''. Yet those are the guys that hardly can bench 65lbs, curls 50lbs or do 3 chin-ups.

Well, in fairness I must say, we have some trainers at our Goodlife in Grimsby, who "seem" to know what their talking about. They're in decent shape and put their clients through a pretty tough session. However, it seems to be a "cookie cutter" routine. Every client goes through, pretty much, the same routine. Whatever the routine of the month seems to be. Having said that, we have had some real lulu's come through there too. One of the trainers insisted on putting all of his clients on some kind of Bulgarian Powerlifting program. There's nothing like watching a 70 year old woman doing clean and jerks and farmer's walk.

Yeah I hear you, there is some here that seems to know a few things also, but it seems to be the exception, kinda like one that goes at Canadian tire with their car and get actually one mechanic that knows what he does.
This week I congratulated one of the trainers there, I told him he was one of the rare trainers that was doing squats properly, he was going parallel instead of doing 1/3 squats like most of the others.

Today at the GL, I was preparing to do the forbidden: to use a squat rack to curl! One of the GL trainers made me a comment on using the rack for curls... I told him that since we do not have a curl station and since the prefixed bars stops at 110lbs, what are my options if I curl more then 110lbs ? Do I use one of the bars on the 2 bench press ? Or the only bar we have on the shoulder press machine ? Or one out of the 3 squat station ? What is best ? He then told me: ''If you can curl more then 110lbs I give you 50$ right now off the bat''... lol I've been curling over 110lbs since quite a long time... Mind you, he could not believe someone could curl more then 110lbs and this is from the second strongest trainers we have (second out of 20)... it's says a lot...

just use the bar + plates as if you're going to deadlift, and then just curl it. won't need the squat rack and no one will give you any lip if you did that. Our GL gym just got a major reno- going from only 1 squat rack to 4. Hopefully I will never have a problem getting a rack again!
PS: you know what tops a rack curler? Not sure if I mentioned this on this forum yet or not - but a guy took 2 bars (the gym only has 3) and set them across the safety racks in the squat rack. He did this so that he could do tricep dips in the squat rack. So not only did I lose my squat rack, but there was no more bars for my wife to deadlift.

Me and my partner came in Saturday to squat. There are 2 squat racks in our Goodlife. As we're getting things set up, some dufus comes over and says he's still using the rack. Well, he was doing quarter squats in one rack and chin ups on the other. 2 power racks and he's using both? After our little 'chat', he went home.:rage

We do not have extra bars, I would still need to remove a bar from a station, but still might be a good idea. Thanks.
