View Full Version : Still Really Confused About This...

I am still really confused about the 'the pump' and 'tearing up the muscle'. I hear soooo many people say that ripping the muscle is the way to grow and get big. Other people say that the pump stretches the fascia of the muscle thereby forcing it to grow. This was sort of what I was trying to get at in one of my other posts but it didn't really explain too well I guess... Prae, I know you told me to lift really heavy, and I have been doing that religiously. But in terms of growing the fastest and most efficiently (reducing as much injury as possible), which is correct? Getting a massive pump or completely destroying the muscle? Thanks!

Ask yourself what is easier lifting light weights for a pump or lifting heavy weights in full range of motion for reps? If you look at the majority of guys in the gym...what do they do....they lift light weights for the pump. Now ask yourself how many of these hundreds of guys are huge? Probably not even one...so what is th way to get big...the easy way or the hard way? You may have been lifting heavy religiously but you have only been doing that for an extremely short time. Building muscle take time and consistency...do everything correct and consistent for 5 years and youll be big.
When you lift heavy through a complete rep range you will ALSO get a massive pump so your question really is moot.
I posted this before and ill post it again...like Ronnie Coleman always said..."everybody wants to be a bodybuilder but nobody wants to lift no heavy ass weight!!!!"
You want to be big....be prepared to get very uncomfortable and learn to love pain...otherwise you will never be big.
If it was easy everyone would be big...they aren't are they?

The pump in and of itself Doesnt equate to muscle growth. If I trained in the 25 rep range with less than one minute rest between sets I would be crazy pumped but new growth would be unlikely as mainly endurance muscle fibers would be stimulated and they dont grow much just become more efficient. Most new growth stimulation occurs in the 7-12 range. Overloading the muscle causes your body to adapt to the stress you put on it. Assuming you have the proper amount of protein and calories to support the adaptive process then growth should occur. Near the end sets of a workout for that bodypart you could shorten the rest times or increase the reps a bit to get the pump using that as facia stretching.

Got it, thanks guys. Sorry about the stupidity over here. I just hear so many of these big guys like Rich Piana that say they go for the pump and after a while I get caught up in different peoples opinions and it starts to get confusing from there. Thanks Prae, I will continue to lift heavy as you told me to!

Rich is telling you how he trains now...for one he doesnt compete, he rarely trains legs, and has plenty of size so he no longer has to push that window. You need to understand where these guys are coming from when answering certain questions. If the question was "how did he get big?" then the answer would be far different believe me. Dont look at how a huge guy or a certain pro trains now....look at what he did to get big in the first place. Its not confusing at all...its actually quite simple and thats why many guys just dont get it...they want it to be easy, they want it to be about drugs, they want it to be a secret training routine, FST7 hogwash or some bullcrap like that...because then they no longer have to be accountable of their shitty ass training, diet and total lack of consistency.
