View Full Version : Forearms Training?

Hello all, I have really long lanky forearms and as a result, makes my arm look really small. What's even worse about this, my bicep and triceps are really filling in so it looks good at the top of the arm but the forearms are lagging so much that it just takes away from the whole look. I was told by a bigger guy at my old gym not to worry about my forearms until I was 2 years into training. He reasoned that the forearms are worked as a secondary muscle group whenever you do compound exercises with the biceps and triceps. Which does make sense to me.... However, I'm almost at my 2nd year now and I'm hammer curling 55 lbs -60 lbs for reps. My forearms are still small compared to my arms.

What do you guys think? Is it a good idea to take forearms and work on them specifically during one of my day? Or should I just leave them and wait for them to come up? Right now I have put them on my Friday session with calves and abs. Tell me your thoughts!

Thanks!

Train heavy deads, barbell curls, bent rows, heavy dumbbells....you wont need much direct forearm work...i never train forearms and mine have been close to 17inches off season.

Yeah but how long did your forearms take to come up? Mine have hardly grown since I first started, even after doing all of those compound movements. My grip strength has really improved however, but I'm not sure if that's an indicator that my forearms are growing...

We're you saying you relied on preachers for biceps? Not the best arm movement for forearms.Try gripping the barbell behind your back and doing wrist curls.Stretch your forearms by leaning over on your open palms on the floor to stretch them.

No cog, you are referring to what I said in a previous thread. I don't use preachers for biceps much at all and I sure as well don't use them for forearms (I was only using preachers before in the other thread for an example). I do tons of compound movements, I was just wondering if I should start it on it's own day, that's all. Thanks for the exercise though. I will give it a shot for sure!

Thanks all!

It will take some time to build forearms and you wont get much size in them until you are moving significant weight on a regular basis.
