People tend to forget that protein illicits an insulin response as well not just carbs. The other thing that wasn't mentioned was adding fat to an isolate will reduce insulin response. It does illustrate the effect of a high carb diet however.

Every shake taken other than an immediate post workout shake should be coupled with almond butter (or another fat source) and psyllium fibre. These added to your whey will dramatically lower your insulin response. It will also make you feel much fuller for much longer. Add cinnamon to the mix and you have further reduced your blood sugar with this meal replacement.

The point is whey has a lot of glucogenic amino acids, meaning some of the amino acids are converted to glucose. Ketogenic amino acids convert to ketones instead.
My little brother is a type 1 diabetic and we tested his blood sugar after a whey shake and 40g of Whey Protein was like drinking 20g of pure dextrose with respect to his blood sugar.
Whey converts to sugar pretty easily if you're not slowing digestion with fat or fiber.
For a type 1 diabetic it makes it hard to manage, for the rest of us thinking we are on "low" carb diets, we need to think again.
Oh and Type 1 diabetics don't have an insulin response, they get a blood sugar increase..

Do you know if it's the same with rice protein ? Since it has a similar amino acid profile to whey.

Its negligible anyway...i have never had any issue with myself of hundreds of clients dropping fat while using whey shakes with or without a fat source.

Eric I have no clue about rice protein.
I agree with Prae in the practical world it probably changes very little. For a diabetic, they need to monitor their blood sugar, which they are already doing and they might require more insulin.
For someone taking excessive quantities of whey protein like 75g per meal 3 times per day, this might be something to consider when fat loss slows down and you start "troubleshooting".

75g of protein in one meal is way too much for most people. Even for a large lean 250lb BB 50g per meal while dieting is plenty.

Does that mean a 200lbs guy could take 40g instead of 50g ?

Its relative to lean mass yes...200lbs + i would stick to 50g...less then 200lbs 45g.
