This MD advocates a keto diet,in this article he does some testing on a bike to measure Vo2 max,Respiratory Quotient,Aerobic Base,60%peak Vo2,and Anaerobic Threshold. All improved except for the last category.About 1990 I read an article in a cycling mag about a method the pro riders used to burn fat. They went for a long 8 hour ride.Typically after this they would eat a large serving of pasta,a steak, and some greens. On this day they would not eat the pasta.Next day they set out for a training ride with no breakfast except coffee IIRC,and a very small amount of carbs which he claimed were required to kickstart the fat burning process. He said the first 35-40 mins,at about 110bpm,were hell, then the fat burning process began and he felt much better.Ride was about 5-6 hours. Can you comment on this as a fat burning strategy Prae? This was apparently good for more than a pound of fat burned off.

The problem with using an aerobic exercise for fat loss where o2 debt begins to occur while in a state of ketosis is gluconeogenesis will increase (ie amino acids will be converted to glucose because it is a faster fuel source) For an aerobic athlete this may not be an issue but for a BB its not ideal. If you are in ketosis and utilize a low intensity steady state cardio exercise ie fast walking then you tend to avoid this situation and primarily use fat as fuel. Many love to debate what is better cardio ie low intensity or HIIT...yes HIIT burns more calories but as BB's we are or at least we should be very concerned where these calories are coming from.
