I am back as an avid gym rat again after several years away from the iron lifestyle, I remember the good old days of nexus. Used to mod on several boards back then as well. Hope to see some familiar faces around again!

A lil about me; I used to bodybuild with powerlifting mentality in my early 20's, and decided to take time away from the iron life to pursue other things in life..a few years ago, I started competing in competitive armwrestling, and since then it has led me back to the gym again to achieve my glory days of strength so I can chase the elite arm wrestlers worldwide in my weight class.

Chow for now,
GP

Haha hammers are a part of the arsenal. I've seen some of the smaller guys lift just as much as some of the big guys do! Check out rustam babayev on YouTube.

I don't think I've heard of Ben soles, but then again I'm bad with names, I'm a face kinda guy.

Hey GP...Good to see you. I loved the armwrestling circuit. It was my sport. My best friend and i were big into it. He got fourth in the world after we won our provincials, then He went to nats, i worked like a slave (my boss at the time thought it was a stupid sport, no day off), he won, then he went on to win fourth in the world. He never to this day has beat me...dammmit...Ryan Espey world champion, also from manitoba and i went at it a couple of times, last time he beat me, after i did a 2 day tourney, and won the super heavies, and then he asked me to pull. He won. He would have won even if i was fresh, BUT, that was the absolute only time i ever lost a pull in or out of a tourney.
I was a tradesman working with my hands all day, i still do hammers with over 100 lbs set after set, after set. Static holds etc. i put them into my trng regiment. It does cause issues with tendons and such, but it is a damn fun sport.
I am so conditioned in my response, literally if i see an armwrestle my adrenaline goes through the roof, and i shake and cant hold myself back hardly....BOOM!!!
Sorry, i have a deep passion for this silly sport....haha

Hey iron will! Yeah espey still competes to this day actually. We both study each other but we have not gripped up yet! It may happen soon though ;) I love competing, its such a thrill. Believe it or not, I have a win on Sylvain perron. I've trained with mike Gould, earl Wilson, Devon larratt, and all the Ontario top tier guys. Crazy George izakouits is still the top dog (with the exception of being #2 in the world now, as Anthony d'allatonia beat him at 2011 nationals).

You should get back into it!!

If you beat espey, i will shake your hand...He was a frign strong puller..As i said the only time i ever got put down. Not super fast, but great technique, and quite strong. I can always tell as soon as i grab the hand exactly what i was up against.

I am way different now, compared to then structure wise and different muscles are stronger , as you know that is not good for tears etc.. I pull now and if it is a challenge my arm is done for a long while. It happens to all that do it too long i think. I was pretty fast out of the hole, but it was my strength that carried me where i went. I do not think it is anything i would do again in any serious form, i made a choice when i started bbing, and there really is not a lot of room for both. BUT i love to hear your stories, and watch you tube clips of good pulls. I still do it, but suffer for it every time. Not long ago i was at strongman comp, and figured id try it out again for fun. Went in a 2 day tourney with both arms and won on both. It was for money , which is my favorite ways to compete. 1400$ in my pocket, and a sore arm for a week or 2...lol But the adrenaline rush is sweet.

Espey got skinny. He's in the 220-242lb class now, which I compete in at big tournaments. He won't have the weight behind him, but def is a smart and strong puller. We pull similarly, bit I have a hit and he doesn't.

wow, he was with me in the big leagues before...I wonder why he went smaller. As i say, we all have our day when the arm and shoulder says...screw you bud...lol..Too bad, he was a force..
