What do you guys think. Egg whites seem like a staple for everyone i know. Ive never had a problem with them. A lot of pros seem to listen to him or so he claims

Thanks for posting, it was interesting, a different approach to DP, especially on carbs and cardio.

The issue I have is when they generalize...ie well carbs have worked for so and so...mostly all very gifted pros....that is not realistic nor is it accurate. Carb sensitivity varies greatly from person to person as does insulin resistance...so I cant intelligently agree with that at all.

I stopped counting the busllshit after these first four statements:

If you have carbs after your workout you just wasted your workout.

Egg whites are not absorbed really well.

Egg Yolks have 5 grams of protein.

Egg Yolks plus Egg whites equals a more complete protein?

It's amazing how much natural talent the elite bodybuilders have. Many of them seem to succeed despite any sane approach to diet or training. Surreal training volumes and the ability to turn just about anything they shove in their mouths into muscle. The only important thing I saw in the video was what Kai was actually eating. A nice chicken, steamed veg and a small portion of something carb looking.

The thing that draw my attention was to get hydrolyzed protein instead of whey isolated + carbs PWO to avoid blunting GH!

Any thought on this Prae ?

I am not Prae but I want to chime in on this.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is: Does a transient increase in GH levels matter at all?

There are several recent studies that show that transient increases in GH or even Testosterone do nothing SIGNIFICANT for extra muscle growth or strength. Check out this episode of Muscle College Radio where Layne Norton breaks it down: http://www.rxmuscle.com/2013-01-11-01-57-36/muscle-college/8092-muscle-college-5-1-13.html

That being said, I guess someone could argue that even if it's not a significant effect their still might be a trend towards an effect and that doing things like this adds up over many years to a noticeable effect. My opinion is that it doesn't matter, transient increase in hormones don't do anything major.

The second question you need to ask yourself is: Does GH significantly increase skeletal muscle protein synthesis?

The answer here is not significantly. GH is well known for its fat burning properties and for its positive effects on connective tissue. It's also known for increasing lean body mass, but when you break that down in comes down to water retention, connective tissue, organ growth and skeletal muscle protein synthesis. So when you look at it, GH isn't that awesome at building big muscles so transient, natural endogenous raises in that hormone probably won't make any difference.

So after looking at that does it really matter what blunts GH levels? In my opinion not really.

I have experimented with fasting after training and it's good for fat loss but you tend to lose muscle or at least not maintain as much as if you were eating.

Now looking at your question. Insulin blunts GH and a large amount of insulin blunts GH more. So taking a large amount of carbs will blunt GH more than not taking any but keep in mind even protein - amino acids increases insulin levels since Insulin is what transports amino acids and carbs into the cells.

So yeah, protein only will also increase insulin but not as much as if Carbs were present. The funny thing is that fast acting proteins will increase insulin more than slow ones so hydrolyzed protein is worst at this then whey concentrate for example.

If you really want your insulin low then eat meat instead, the aminos from it will slowly trickle into your blood barely increasing insulin.

Just another loser in the bodybuilding community who simply rehashes someone else's ideas and people believe the hype. Probably got shot for selling fake gear , like another notable 'guru' Dave Palumbo. Also a loser.

I never saw the need....whey works just fine and if you look at absorption time its just fine. Ever try to eat hydrolyzed protein....tastes like ass.

Dr. Mauro DiPasquale agrees with this.

Dr. Mauro DiPasquale agrees with this.

Oh, I'm familiar with Mauro's paper: "Post Exercise Carbohydrates May Be Counter-Productive"

Here are the opening paragraphs:

"At this time the consensus in the literature is that the use of a balanced amino acid mixture along with glucose or high glycemic carbohydrates taken immediately after exercise and then again a short time later would seem to optimize the immediate anabolic effects of exercise.1"

There’s no doubt that the use of the individual and combinations of amino acids both before, during and after exercise has significant short term effects on protein synthesis and the exercise and post exercise hormonal milieu. However, very little research has been done on the long term benefits or drawbacks on body composition and performance of using post exercise carbohydrate intake.

However, a recent study assessed the need for co-ingestion of carbohydrate with protein on post-exercise muscle protein synthesis.2 The results of the study showed that the use of a protein hydrolysate alone was enough to increase protein synthesis after exercise and that the addition of carbohydrates did not further increase protein synthesis."

His position is that Protein alone is better than Protein and Carbs right after a workout because you maintain insulin sensitivity for longer.

I think that's a far cry from saying that you just "WASTED" a workout. A workout is a workout, no matter what you eat after it it's not going to be wasted, it might not be optimal for protein synthesis but it's never wasted.

You're right, even a crappy workout is better than none. These guys are after every ounce of muscle they can get.If the athletes follow such tight diets,at what point does the fat deposition that invariably occurs happen?Duriing the post workout window following mass carb infusion?
