I'm getting my wisdom teeth out today. They're knocking me out as 2 of the teeth are impacted, so they have to drill into the jaw bone. Afterwards, I'm not allowed to drive, and am supposed to have someone babysit me for 24 hours.

They're giving me a very strong pain killer for afterwards. 5mg of Dilaudid per day. I've had T3's and Percocets before in decently high doses, especially after the horse thing, but this is supposed to be almost as strong as morphine. I'm a bit nervous of being all drugged up.

I stocked up on food for the next few days. Chicken noodle soup, Chunky's, real Ginger Ale, soda crackers. I'm going to blend anything that doesn't want to get chewed. I have chicken breasts and steaks ready to go for that if need be, just need some gravy and I'll be all good.

Thing that sucks the most is I've been out of the gym the last 2 weeks for tendon issues in my left hand. I'm ready to go back, but now this. Doh! A few more days, hopefully this weekend.

All the best to a speedy recovery. Don't be nervous about the D's.. they will definately make your recovery alot more pleasant.

No need to be nervous. I had mine done a couple years back. I was nervous because I had never been put under. I even asked if they could do it with a local because I have a high pain tolerance. I think they thought I was insane. Anyway, after the surgery they were trying to wake me up but I was fighting to go back to sleep as I had not slept in the last 3 nights from the amount of infection I had.

Make sure you have someone drive you home. You will be a bit spacey after you wake up. If you live alone, for the next few days, keep in touch with a close friend or family every few hours so they can make sure you are all good while pumped up on the meds.

Good luck

I had mine done while I was awake. My aunt recommended I stay awake, I wasn't impacted and she said they are usually more 'gentle' if they know you're concious.

They gave me valium. I remember them giving me two pills and coming back in an hour to see how I was doing. Had the remote backwards in my hand, but pretended ilke I was fine. So they gave me a third. Smooth sailing from there on.

Good luck! You'll be ok.

Mine have been coming in for quite some time but I don't think I'll ever get them removed. I refuse. The dentist wanted me to get an x ray, and I didn't bother in case he said I should get them out. They get paid tons to do this procedure so it's in THEIR best interest that you get them removed imo.....unless of course they are causing tons of pain and are infected. Teh generation of my parents and their parents never got them removed and guess what, they didn't die and their teeth are not all crooked and mangled. Unless they somehow get infected and I cannot eat, I will never get mine out...period.

you'll be fine I had the same exact procedure done, and trust me you'll want the pain killers for sure, but you'll fully recover with in a week, good luck with the eating, i had trouble just opening my mouth, just gatorade for me.

It was one the worst days I've ever experienced. Pain was intolerable, I was awake the whole time. I think they gave me a cpl different kinds of benzodiazepines before, they didnt do anything. Nitrous throughout.

Lost a bunch of weight, training went to shit, got depressed and fell deeply into alcohol dependence, but then finally after six months and thirty pounds lost, I recovered back to normal. Just like waking up from a terrible dream.

I just got back, was in the hospital for just over 6 hours. So far I can still feel nothing, but the tip of my tongue is starting to unfreeze. I've got my pain killers ready to go after I eat, which will be fun considering the only sense I have in my mouth besides the tip of my tongue is temperature.

I've got a night of TV planned. Should be good times. We'll see how pain feels in the morning if there is any, I've got doctors orders on the Dilaudid dosing.

I must say, that was the best sleep ever. After stuck my sodium chloride drip on, and he injected the knock out stuff into the IV, I was out like a light for 2 and a half hours. I was also groggy after I woke up at 3:30 till about 4:45, and I've got a high resistance to things that make me sleepy. But, that was fun.

The Damn freezing is still there! It's been almost 11 hours now, damn this guy is good! I know he said he was going to use the long acting stuff, but I'm thinking he shot it into the nerve in the bottom of the jaw the way this stuff is sticking around and very slowly coming out.

Just kidding about all the stuff bro, you'll be back to normal in 7-10 days.

I'm doing pretty decent so far, surprisingly. The worst part is the pressure that I'm feeling, and the damned stoned feeling.

Oh well, the sun is out today here in Victoria so I'm going to bake in the sun reading BodyOpus for a few days. :D

Oh, forgot to mention that I'm still about 45% frozen. I should be finding out in the next 12 hours if that's nerve damage or not, since these teeth were sitting on the nerve with their little cysts around them. All I know is I feel relatively fine on the right side of the mouth, but the left is 100% still frozen.

Wait till you get the balls to start exploring the new holes .. that's fun. Finding 8 day old pizza and stuff.

Did you wake up with your fly undone? I hate it when that happens!!

I just started it yesterday and am now about half way through. It's a great book for sure, going to have to pick up the rest of Duchaine's books now. :D

Damn, I'm facing the same procedure right now. My dentist wants to remove my two impacted lower wisdoms. I really, really don't want too!lol. I am a bit of a pussy when it comes to the pain, but am more worried about nerve damage. A good friend of mine had nerve damage as a result of the surgery and ended up talking like she had a mouth full of marbles and couldn't taste her food! She got it back but it took almost a ****ing year! **** that!
