Wow. God knows if bodybuilding would even exist if it were not for Ben and Joe Weider. Many people have spoken ill of him when their favourite pro didn't win the Olympia but like him or not he is THE most influential man in the history of bodybuilding and perhaps the onset of the fitness craze. He will be sadly missed. RIP Joe.

Without the Weider brothers (and Jack Lalane) there probably wouldn't be gyms today.

Yeah a top figure in the industry, I remember my 1st protein can had his face on it, it was in the mid 80s (and it was soy lol). At least he died old and had time to see the work of his hand!

The transition from Gay Porn to respectable business tycoon was pretty amazing.
The Weider's are some of the few that put some of what they took out back into the business.
It's a shame the "health" supplement companies haven't done the same and forced a lot of the unhealthy elements out of the sport out and brought some general popularity back to the sport/lifestyle.
Agree with the unhealthy elements statement. The brothers did a lot.A few things here and there and there again I didn't agree with.....I think they interfered a fair bit.

sad to see joe go, he did more than anyone for the sport and health in general. but don't forget bob hoffman that man started the york barbell company and bodybuilding well before weider came into action.
Good old York barbell,a monkey wrench and you were gtg. Those db handles came in handy around the house.
