View Full Version : Questions regarding appetite while cutting

Hi, I have a few questions in regards to dealing with extreme hunger during cutting phases...as well as a few other unrelated questions.

First, I would like to say that I finally started a cutting cycle and diet about 6 weeks ago. Every year, I would tell myself that I'd cut down in order to get visible abs, but I just never did because I was always afraid of losing size when going too low on carbs. I was never lazy with cardio but my appetite has always been ridiculous both on and off cycle. In the past 6 weeks or so, there have been things happening in my life that have really brought me down, and the only way I could deal with them mentally was just by focusing on training and diet. I find that torturing myself and depriving myself of bad foods actually made me feel better about my situation. And I'm finally able to somewhat see my abs. This is a first for me.

I am: 5'7'', currently 168 lbs (was 185-190 before with a good deal of fat along with muscle mass).

I lifted naturally from age 14 all the way up to age 23. My first cycle was var by itself at 30mg/day. I made unbelievable gains on that alone. So then I got lazy and thought that it was all about drugs and nothing else. I gave in to my appetite all the time and basically was never lean. This year, however, I'm finally realizing that diet and training are equally important, and drugs are only a small part of it.

My current cycle is: 250 mg of Test cyp and 200mg of Primobolan per week. That's it. I'm seeing better results on this low dose than I ever have back when I used mega doses and just ate crap all year and trained without much intensity.

My diet is as follows:

Meal 1 - 4 whole Omega-3 eggs and 4 additional egg whites
Meal 2 - 5 oz chicken with handful of almonds
Meal 3 - Protein shake - 40 - 45g protein
Meal 4 - Chicken Caesar salad with grilled chicken
Meal 5 - Protein shake - 40 - 45g protein
Meal 6 - Steak or fish (such as salmon) - it is usually fish but some days it will be steak

My questions:

1) Although this is the FIRST time I've stuck to a diet consistently without cheating (almost done with week 7), I'm having an increasingly hard time dealing with carb cravings. Sometimes when people around me eat pizza or something I want, I would literally dig my nails into my legs in order to stop myself from getting some myself. Is there something I can ADD to my diet that I can eat that will keep me full WITHOUT screwing up my diet?

2) I have read some of your comments on how orals supposedly kill your appetite, but I find that this is NOT the case for me. Back when I ran dbol alone or var alone, my appetite was insane. I was eating 5k calories easily and was still hungry all the time. Do you think there might be some other non-drug related reason why my appetite is so off the charts? I'm even crazy hungry when I'm off cycle. I'M EVEN HUNGRY WHEN I GET SICK WITH THE FLU FOR GOD'S SAKE. (Thank god this hasn't happened in a while).

3) How much cardio should I be doing in a day? And should I change it by increasing it as the cycle draws to an end or keep the amount the same all the way up through the end of the cycle? I am planning on finishing by Mid-May or early June. Right now I am doing 30min of fasted cardio in the morning before my first meal.

4) What do you think I should do about the lack of energy I feel from this low carb diet? Should I increase carbs or just use caffeine/stims? I hate stims and I have not been using them. I also heard (I think from you) that they eventually increase cortisol and in turn make it hard to burn fat after a while.

5) Any other additional suggestions to controlling appetite aside from will power? :o

Thanks!

Lol ^

Your fats are too low on a consistent basis.

Cardio should be increased week to week by five minutes per session.

Drink tons of water with each meal.

Stay away from people eating pizza!

Thanks, DK. What kinds of foods should I incorporate in my meals in order to increase the fat intake?

Just add healthy oils - mac nut oil, EVOO...etc.

You may want to start by figuring out your macros. Post them up when you have them. Figure out each meal and daily total. That will help us out in pointing you in the right direction. Not even sure if you weigh your foods. You may want to start there also.

Couple things that will help:

1. Protein needs to be weighed cooked...7oz cooked chicken, salmon, beef etc
2. Protein should be whey isolate(no carbs) and 50g per shake, add 1Tbsp olive oil to this or 1.5Tbsp natural PB or almond butter
3. almonds, cashews, or walnuts are good but measure them NOT a handful....1/3 cup
4. Avoid carbs or you will feel much worse....let your body get into ketosis and your energy will be great(in ketosis the brain runs on ketone bodies a by product of fat oxidation...plenty of that going on)
5. carbs will kick u out of ketosis and tease the brain with glucose...not good....its called hunger, lethargy, mood swings etc
6.avoid stims they raise cortisol too high which causes muscle loss...not what you want...have a large coffee once or twice a day thats enough.
7. meals should be 50g protein (ie 7oz cooked meat) or protein isolate powder and a measured fat source...15g or so
8.cardio depends on the person...start at 20min walking on treadmil or outside every day...increase by 5-10 min per week if your fat loss stalls.
9. plan to have one cheat meal per week...i have mine every saturday evening...it will help with fat loss by improving thyroid function and t will give you something to look forward too each week...and NO cheats durin g th rest of the week
10. people fail on diets because they dont plan and arent organized...make your meals, pack them with you when you go to work or school...be prepared

Thank you all for your advice. It's coming along quite well now. Dropped a great deal of additional bodyfat over the past 3-4 weeks after really restricting carbs and using more fats to curb appetite. I don't get crazy cravings for bad food anymore. I feel fine, actually. And strength is through the roof during workouts, which I didn't think would be possible on a low-carb diet. This is great. Once again, thank you everyone!!
