Was watching a few videos and noticed some bodybuilders talking about using MCT oil in the morning. So I did a bit of research and it looks like it is a good source of energy without being converted to fat. Also helps speed up the metabolism for fat loss. How do you guys view MCT oil? Is it a necessity or not? Can I use coconut oil instead? I saw a vid of Fouad Abiad where he is using coconut oil for breakfast. It seems to be the same thing. Any help appreciated on this.

Coconut oil is an MCT. Great for off season...not so much for dieting.

Not the greatest to diet with, but 5 grams tsp of MCT with the odd meal helps keep me full and kill my hunger.

5G EVOO will keep you just as full, kill your hunger, and provides much needed health benefits.

We love MCT oil and have our clients diet on it. It really depends what type of diet you are using.
Off-season it's a great way to get in cals. Check out any weight gainer - they all have MCT oil.

The thing to remember with MCT's s that they are an energy source (unlike carbs) that is difficult for the body to store. Hence they work great off season because they allow you to keep carbohydrate levels lower and still maintain plenty of energy and spare protein without worry of depositing fat. However they do not provide the health benefits that essential fats like extra virgin olive oil provide. So they shouldn't be used in place of essential fats but in conjunction to them. As well when dieting MCT's similar to carbs will be a preferential fuel source...that means they will be primarily used prior to body fat...this can reduce the efficiency of the diet. As well because they do not provide other benefits all of the calories are used as fuel as opposed to say EVOO being used for bodily functions as well as fuel.
