I am 49 years old, and have lifted free weights on and off most of my life. Right now I'm back in the game. i am using GNC whey protein 39 grams both before , and after my workout. I also take another 39 g later in the day at work. I mix it with water. The directions say to use 1 serving-39 grams/day. Am I using to much of this stuff? In the past I would work out, and after about 3 weeks I would be exhausted, and quit working out. I figured I wasnt feeding my body enough protein. I also started taking Creatine pills from GNC also. Any advice would be appreciated.

Three servings a day is not too much. If you're exhausted after three weeks to the point of quitting then likely you're not structuring your workouts properly.

I take usually whey 4x per day!

Since it's a food staple for me I choose quality proteins (100% whey Isolate, no artificial sweetener), you should put some grounded flax and organic cold first press olive oil in it to slow down absorption (like a time release) and it will even more healthier, except for the shake after the workout which need to be fast absorbed, so no fibers or fats to be added to this shake.

First off, good for you getting back into lifting. I'll say that is a lot of powder to be taking in on a daily basis, depending on what your overall macro totals are. I'd look at your overall diet and go from there. you may want to look into a good quality blend or more of an MRP powder. As for creatine, if you have just started, you should shoot for about 5 grams a day for a month and depending on your bodyweight you should drop to about half of that. a 200 male can maintain full saturation on about 3 grams a day. Also if you are looking to save a few buck go with straight mono powder over caps.

Depending on how much lean mass you hold I would suggest six meals daily with approx 40-50g protein per meal. Three protein shakes along with three whole food meals makes things real easy. Creatine mono i sbest used at 5g daily on non lifting days and on lifting days 5g in the morning along with 5g post workout.

Agreed, I go for 3 shakes in my 9 meals. Tech 7, plus a post workout and pre meal. I also like to use amino acids during the workout and if i wake at night.

Protein powder is really just powdered food. I get most of my requirements from food and just use Allmax isoflex (http://www.samedaysupplements.com/isoflex-by-allmax-nutrition.html)to supplement the rest (usually 2 shakes a day).
