The Cons proposed Internet surveillance bill which would have allowed police to snoop without a warrant has been scrapped. This would have been abused to no end.It was proposed under the guise of combatting child porn but authorities have plenty of tools and resources to pursue perverts that are interested in that. They must be looking to the next election.

They snoop all the time without a warrant. They can pull anything off of anyone's PC. I know for a fact that even small police forces have the technology to read anyone's private messages on Facebook for instance. All Bill C-30 would have done would legitimize what they're already doing.

Calgary has computer experts that are in fact retired cops or private contractors.I believe an expert could enter your PC without too much trouble. This bill would have forced Internet providers to install additional measures to intercept communications.A nosey neighbor with a personal friend being a police officer could likely have managed to gain info under the proposed bill.

Wondering if Andre Gregoire is able to tell us anything about this.

It should be private. If I visit this site it's nobody's business.

but thats the reality of the cyber world... if someone wants to find you/your posts / internet activity is quite easy these days...thats why depending on your internet activity you should be careful..( re: banking/personal info released ie - name, address etc)
The internet can be your best friend or worse enemy and is in law enforcement to conduct any type of investigation more and more these days

If you buy anything over the net you give out personal info.I was much more concerned about what would amount to an atmosphere that would be similar to the one the Stasi created in East Germany. Some people should stick to collecting comic books.I don't save data on my cell providers network and my home computer stays on a tunnel.Just because it's nobody's casual interest.

Good to see this bill scrapped but lot's is being done without the public's knowledge. Companies are even starting to create software as it's now become big business to keep tabs on people and "get to know them" in case they need info on you in the future. As I always said, think before you post or visit somewhere, especially if you have a lot to lose. The above software will help but over time people get a false sense of security and slip up or LE catches up. It's a good thing Canada isn't as bad as the states with all this stuff but they are still doing something to keep tabs or wanting to do something. C-30 is the proof of that.

I read about a version of this idea a few years back on an Italian WWII history site run by an employee of the American gov.The software elevated the profile of people visiting such sites because Italy was fascist in the past and there is also some discussion of period weapons. This apparently raised your chances of visiting hate sites or owning restricted firearms!Truly Orwellian.
