I no longer perform power cleans with an oly bar for fear of an injury to my left arm.I tried some with a Swiss bar,and realized how much my upper back misses these.Does any member have experience with a log,and how this compares to the oly and swiss bar?

Since training for Strongman I do cleans with a Logs, Axle and with an Oly bar and find all 3 very different. I guess the log and swiss bar are similar but with the log it stays out a bit more away from your body especially with the bigger logs 11+ inches. Also, with a log you first row it to your lap then you sit back pull it in then hip thrust and roll it up your belly/chest.

Cleaning a log involves rolling it so in that way it's different from a swiss bar. Compared to Oly bar it's not very similar at all besides the explosiveness.

I can't rack an oly bar.I found the neutral grip of the Swiss made it manageable. How do you rate the log for its effect on the upper back?

I think that the log is good for upper back work but since it's got a higher risk of injury since it rolls and it's out there. Lot's of guys injure their biceps when trying to clean a log that's too heavy, they fail half way through and then it ends up being a negative rep in hammer curl position with 200+ lbs.

I think the swiss bar would be safer on the biceps and probably work the upper back more since you keep the bar locked in all the time. Just my 2 cents.
