p,
when you see articles where they mention one should take X amount of protein per bodyweight, do they mean per LBM or total weight? i was told your overall body weight gains no benefit eating all that protein and should only apply to your lean body weight?
so if i am 250 with 15 percent body fat would i do X times 250 or X times 212.5.
currently i am doing 1.5grams of protein times 212.5 over six meals.
thanks,

The problem is defining what LBM really is. Is it 0 percent BF? and if so how do you know what BF % you are right now anyway...calipers....good luck with that. The easiest measurement would be 1.5 times BW as long as you are not overly fat. For a 200lb man who is in decent shape 300g per day is fine. (200*1.5) for a 250lbs man same shape 375g would be fine. If you look at things meal wise then that would equate to 50g per meal at 6 meals daily or 60g for the 250lb man. It doesnt have to be to the gram exactly.

I agree with Praetorian on this as well, as I have no use and I mean NO USE for BF% BS as none of them are very accurate....hell you'd be better stripping naked and jumping up and down in front of a mirror and if it jiggles then it's fat and not muscle/LBM. When I calculate my protein requirements or my clients I will do pretty much what was posted above, so if I'm prepping some one for a show I pretty much know what weight class they'll be training/dieting for and base their protein needs on that weight. Now having said that protein in and of itself is not nearly as much of a concern for fat gain as is carbs so if you're a little high in your protein intake it won't add unwanted BF but carbs on the other hand will as they are easily converted into BF if there is no requirement for them IE energy then carbs get stored...

I was wondering what would be best for someone who doesn't train, aka Joe blow that want to eat healthy and not fall into this diabetic diet of our generation, I usually recommend 1g per lbs, is this sounds good ?
Thanks

For an untrained individual I would say 1g per lb BW is fine.
