Hi, just me again.....

I have a few questions, if some can answer them.............

1. How do you know when your body is in a state of ketosis?
2. Do I need to buy the ketosis strips? I work in a doctors office and we dip urines...could I dip my own urine? there is a square on the strip for protein?
3. Is there any reading/books that you can suggest on this type of diet??... When I search ketogenic diets they usually talk about atkins and other unhealthy diets that are high in unhealthy fats and full fat dairy and all kinds of crap :(

Anything else I should know? be on the lookout for? side effects?

You can also look into any and all articles written by Dave Palumbo or pop by his site http://rxmuscle.com/ and check out what Dave has to say. I personally keep my carbs very low all year 'round as this works best for me. Also you can look into Vince Gironda's writings as he was way ahead of everyone else when it came to low carb diets back in the day. Research and experimentation is what you'll have to go through to figure out what works best for you and your physique.

ketosis strips will turn purple when your in ketosis state.
When your on this diet it will lower your HDL/LDL levels when your eating these wonderful tasting foods or bad fats that have beens said by so many people, there nothing like we have been told. Add 4 fish oil caps per day will do wonder for your health.
The newer Atkins book have new added info with healthy fats with the diet, very good read.

Not true. That is the confusion with Ketosticks. Ketosticks measure excess ketones in urine. If your body is using ketones as energy and there are none left over to be excreted in the urine the stick won't show full ketosis despite the fact that you are in heavy ketosis. Personally, I wouldn't use them - too much of a mind f**k. If you follow Palumbo's diet, Atkin's diet, etc. to the tee you will get into ketosis.

Exactly...ketostix are unnecessary and inaccurate for athletes on a keto diet. Stick to the diet and you will be in ketosis...nuff said!

On keto diet such as Dave P's your HDL will either remain as is or increase....your LDL will most likely drop. But you have to remember not all LDL is bad there are subparticles of LDL which are considered bad and others good. The small dense LDL are the ones considered bad which tend to cause the plaque build up in the arteries.
