looking for a little advice on how guys/gals are doing it? I just started this job 3 weeks ago and atm I'm averaging 150 hours a week... and I'm told thats pretty normal, and welcome to the oil industry. wondering how people are getting there workouts in? really considering going at night after I get home but i'm already not getting 8hours of sleep. 6 if i'm lucky. would this be counter productive to go? i have had 3 days off so far and I did 2 a days maken sure I got my whole body in there but I know it's not enough.

I used to hit a gym if we were stayin in town every other night/day. Most camps have some sort of weight rooms now days but not back in my days. I used to haul my own lil gym everywhere I went. I always found time after wrk to have my workout b4 supper/breaky.

Its a LONGGGG winter buds, get ready lol I put in 25ish odd yrs ;) but am an Engineer nowa days

3 Days a week will do the trick bro

Get a TRX and check out the YouTube vids.Making it to the gym is not realistic after 12-14 hours of work.Workouts will need to be short, you're going to lose some mass.

150 hours a week ? that's over 20 hours a day , is that even legal ? If your doing that I wouldn't train , rest would be more important.

I've known guys that will train on the days off and hit it hard when they do so that while away at work they don't need to worry so much about it. Even some body exercises will do while on shift

im guessing 150 hours a week is a massive exaggeration or very poor math. i would just do some calisthetics when you can and try to eat as clean as possible. your motivation now should be making money and avoiding booze and drugs which is what ruins most guys out there. good luck dude.

He doesn't have time to go to the gym.TRX on a door frame.Throw in a few resistance bands and you can get in some kind of workout, better than nothing.

I work a service rig for pd and yes company policy is to not put in that many hours but our push says when we work and go home 93.5 rig time hours, 22 shop hours, 36 hours travel. we get paid differently for for travel, shop and rig but I'm still not on my own time for these hours. and not 3 days a week I didn't get any days off my first week got 2 last week and yesturday. 3 days off total. some days I can sleep in vehicle on the way and others I cannot as someone has to stay awake with driver/driller to the lease.

oh and I'm home every-night and my fiance is still helping with lunches so I'm still eating good hitting my macros though I am up to 3 shakes a day

Resistance bands in several sizes.Short short workouts every night. No other way.I work construction,in the summer good workouts only happen on the weekends.A pushup with resistance bands is ok.

So in 3 weeks, you've put in 450 hours of paid work hours. Not to be a pessimist, but those kind of work hours to me would simply mean it is impossible to have a hobby, let alone bodybuilding as a hobby! Even if I take away the travel time, you are still physically working over 16 hours a day. The rest should be spent sleeping. So unless you can do chin-ups while travelling, I can't see how you can be working out effectively. I don't really know what a typical day at work looks like, but I can only assume its pretty exhausting. I used to work 8 hours building boats, which was pretty labor intensive. At the time, I biked to work, and back - so add to those 8 hours, 1.5 hours of cycling. At the end of the day there was no way I wanted to be in the gym. I did it anyway, but the workouts were semi-pointless. So, if I had to be working 16 hours, I doubt I could actually workout.

I guess to answer your question, if you're only getting 6 hours of sleep a night, then I can't picture working out being very productive if you have to dip into those hours let along try to workout after working all day.

HUH, 12-14 hour days are my norm, no problem still getting in the gym for a quality workout.Did it as a tradesman on tools in construction tough as a job as you can get.., and never had better workouts with my crew...Now i am a manager, so not on tools, but still long ass days and tiring, the gym is where i feel good.......Still gaining mass...:)

When i'm on shift I'll do 14-16 with travel , but I can workout at work as we have a cage and lots of weight. IF we didn't I'm sure I would still find time , but maybe only 2 times a week. On my set off there is no issue so I'll put in a bit more days.

Working 20+ I wouldn't even bother, I'd just sleep when I could.

atm though it seems like drilling is pretty slow manitoba/sask ( I did apply at alot of companies even in alberta only got a call back from pd), I'm from brandon. and even the work we're doing seems to be alot outside of moosomin area wich is a 2 hour drive each way and 14-16 hour days happen alot add on your 4 hours driving = it hasn't been 150 all three weeks but last week it was and this week is looken the same and even the others have been WAY more then most people work in 2 weeks. and the lack of sleep where i'm worried if it's even beneficial to workout? guna check out the trx, the worst part of this job so far has been the lack of workouts the gym was my thing! lol got my first pday though and I was pretty happy about that lol

That is what i did starting out my career, at even more hours per day...No problemo, my position was called labourer,....Thats easy man.....Try following me for a day....lol
BUT, i guarantee you will not work this farm boy into the ground.....LOL, many have tried and said id be crippled at 40 yrs old....I am built to work, german descent....long line of farmers and workers, it was a measure of whom you were, not like being a city boy.......

Im in my 40s now and still getting better...Its in your head bro....Mine is programmed to work and thats how i was raised...Labour work prepping crete was easy compared to being on the farm, where you did all that by building and maintaining your operation, and wrestled cattle, dug out a stuck tractor, harnessed up the horses and head out to the bush to cut a load of wood and skid it out, then had breakfast...No joke...Sometimes that was done before school, then the weekends where when the real work happened, then you got drunk that nite, and the ol man was pounding on the door saying "you wanna dance all nite kid, you can sing all day".
Hittiong the workforce was like a vacation, no joking..

In fact it was always the lazy guys whining that i would be crippled at 40 because there was no way i could work the way i do on the job, then go push weights...
I had a guy tell me the other day i would be fat and crippled by the time i hit 40....lmao, i told him i was well into my 40s, he shit and thought i was in my early 30s, that is common...
So yes i agree 20 hours per day is a lot, to much to do anything in the gym, and not realistic for more than a couple days at a time...
12 -16 hours/day can still have a good workout if calories are there, a PLAN is in place, and the work ethic is there, and one is not a whiner..If you are a whiner, it will not happen...
You either do it or don't, but don't spend time comparing yourselves to others....Because there is always someone better out there..

I've tried this, was only workings 12's 7 days a week at the time but man FOOD is probably 10 times more important if your beating your body up with that kinda workday. I found I was literally eating every moment of the day; That I wasent being forced to work and even then I was still hungry as **** all the time.

Trades > Labour, So glad I dont have to deal with that kinda crap anymore. Still long days but better pay and easier work make it alot easier to goto the gym after ;)

Hahaha.I knew you would take the bait.I know you come from a farm background. So a day that starts at 5,travel,12 hours, travel home, eat, out to the gym doesn't spell 110% workout. The hardest I heard of was the welding Gicantor was doing in vessels, preheating and getting cooked all day.If you can work hard all day as a big guy you're a rarity.

Its about quality of life for me. I'd rather pay a few $ earlier and spend my time studying at the library and dating sorority girls to end up working a job where I don't get dirty , work 830-230 M-F with tons of vacation time and get steady sleep. But to each his own. I'd pussy out one day into this rigging lifestyle

In our district there was a log jam of admins in their 50'6 and 60's referred to as the Old Boys...they all are retiring now leaving a huge void so the districts are scrambling. The requirements on paper is 10yrs teaching experience plus the Masters but in certain areas or the feeder schools they have no one to fill the vp and principal jobs. I agree though it is a joke at times, a large inner city high school in our district with 2k kids is actually being run by an ex cop with no classroom experience

I'm at the right weight for my frame and age.At some point everybody will be smaller.I remember this interview on FHM mag about a dozen years ago.Interviewing three chicks about what kind of guys make the best lovers.First chick says athletes.Second chick says musicians.Third chick says"guys that don't work".Recovery is important....

i am just raggin on you coq.....Everyone has different goals, but you should not try and decide who can do what, as one is always surprised at the levels of some folks out there....I get fooled all the damn time...I was an armwrestling champ at one time national level....Made a lot of loot from it at strongman shows etc...The toughest challenges i had were one guy from portage la prairie farm boy, beat me, the only one i ever lost in a competition, he ended up being the world champ of both arms, maybe still is?...farmer/pipefitter, big chubby soft guy...
The second was a skinny little shit that went in an open class, up with us bigger guys, he lost to me, but won against several others, i buggered my arm up for about 3 months afterwards....He was a chiropractor, and did not work out much at all he claimed, but he was a freak...Everyone has different tolerances and body mechanics.. Almost broke my forearm...

Ha!!! I agree completely. Its all about the individual. I do MY thing and dont ever look beside me, why? cause I could give 2 shits what others are doing. I just know I give 110% at everything I do. And its paid off through out my life as it did IDUB. Hard work, honesty, commitment WILL get you places. Well good looks too ;) and im gifted in that area as well. Damn i'm a lucky human being :D LOL

Ok whos gotta Coors Light now?
