I've started training with a Strongman training crew about 4 months ago and can't get enough of it.

After training so long in a gym this is a welcomed change. It's very different and a lot of fun.

We rent a school gym so in order to keep the rental costs down I am trying to recruit friends and co-workers to join me but getting a lot of hesitation.

I don't understand why. Once you try it you are hooked. It encompasses strength, conditioning, explosiveness, REAL functional strength and it's in a friendly but competitive atmosphere so you push yourself.

What is your opinion of strongman and why aren't more people interested?

I assume people imagine that you need to be really big and strong to do this and they are intimidated but the reality is the sport has now evolved where there are different weight classes and skill levels (Amateur, Intermediate, Advanced, Pro).

We have guys that range from 5'5" to 6'5" and they weigh between 170lbs to 350lbs. Some are just getting started and some are really strong.

Looking for opinions on why aren't more people interested?

Thanks!

Whatever keeps you going.More people don't do it for the same reasons they don't like the squat rack. You also need strong hands and forearms not to mention the back.Big loader tires are tough.

I guess that is part of it. It is really hard but if you are Deadlifting and Squatting in the gym it's not any harder than that.

I know lots are concerned of getting injured or re-injuring themselves but still a lot more people seem to have just no interest and I don't get it. lol

I used to compete in strongman so I know how much fun it is. The reason why more people don't train in this way is because it's really hard work....plain and simple.

Like I already told you I would really like to go, I'm not afraid of hard work, in fact I'm driven by it, but I'm trying to rebuild a capacity in my back, lately I've hurt my QL doing squats, even with relatively light weights. So I'm still using children's weight for Squats and DL and I don't see myself with you guys there, it seems a long route for me, but I'm hard headed and patient.
