I was just wondering, here at our local costco and grocery store when i look at extra lean ground beef all i find is 15% fat content. Is this normal, i keep on reading some sort of 93/7 ratio on other forums. Does this mean that there is ground beef at 7% fat content, if so where can i find it.
thank you.

You are better off financially to buy the 15% at Costco. Once fried, drained and rinsed there will be very little difference between that and 7%. Beware of ground turkey\chicken as it is often touted as a better alternative. It will\can be higher if they grind the whole bird including the white and dark meats as well as the skin.

Thank you very much for the quick response. Ground turkey is a staple of my diet, i eat it every day. I just make sure i buy the extra lean kind. If my memories serves me right it's listed on Fitness Pal as 3% fat ratio so i think i should be fine. I was just looking for beef so i could sub my steak ive been having before bed. A greater and leaner ratio would of been appreciated, i just cant find it anywhere.
Once again thanks for you input.

extra lean ground beef is 10% fat in general. costco doesnt carry extra lean only "lean" which is 85/15. youll have to find extra at an alternative butcher. I find 95% pretty regularly. or buffalo is a good and even leaner alternative but prices have skyrocketed

Draining and rinsing can certainly bring it damn close to 5%…as well as making it taste like cardboard. Lol. An offseason staple for me.

This FTW for sure. We eat a TON of lean ground beef/steaks around my house!
