There is different approach to it, like training 2 different parts in the same day, like Chest in the morning and triceps in the evening. Or training the same muscle twice a day, like doing heavy componds/low reps for the chest in the morning and isolation/high reps for the chest in the evening. It can be done for 2 weeks as a planned 'overtraining' followed by a week of deload, etc...
Did somebody here ever tried to train twice a day for a while ?
What's your experience/results with that ?
I'm on a diet right now to lower my BF%, and I want to take advantage of insulin sensitivity to grow lean. I guess having two PWO shakes per day might help.
Thanks
Eric
i like to train twice a day when i get a chance....1st workout generally my max effort or dynamic effort, 2nd workout is accessory work usually high rep, light weight gpp type stuff.....
I read an interview in a British bb mag about 78 ,two guys working their entire bodies twice a day and getting into contest shape in a month.Huge suspension shots before each session.Author was dumbfounded at the dosages, which he didn't specifically mention.

i usually go twice per day, morning i do cardio, not fasted. then at night i hit weights, no need to lift twice a day. if u cant fit in two muscle groups within 45 mins-hour even hour and a half, ur not training intense enough and ur taking to long of breaks. break the muscle down and get out
Lee Haney trained twice a day,not sure if it was his entire career.First in the morning, eat sleep for about 30~40 mins.Cant remember for sure if second session was in the afternoon but believe so.Eat sleep. One session would be less intense.

I am planning on doing that for next contest prep......Rise at 430 am, eat, gym, for an hour, then head to work...
12 hours later hit the gym again for another 45 mins- hour...
I did this once before for about 8 weeks, i really enjoyed it..
I liked the ablity to focus on only one part, brief intense workout....
Get all my meals in, then do it again....
On legs i split up hams in am/ quads in pm with calves...
I found at around the 6-8 week mark i was burning out a bit....
I may try it for 4 weeks, then 2 weeks normal workouts, then again for 4 weeks...

^Sounds like CP, except he's recommending going 2 week twice a day, 1 week once a day.

FROM NATIONAL LEVEL and GURU JOHN MEADOWS (MOUNTAINDOG
I talked to a guy whom i respect alot (Tim Patterson)....we poured through my training system for hours each day....for like 3 weeks until he understood the layered training i do in great detail...
He asked me what I needed to do to get better....
I thought to myself, well I can't train any harder.....there is a point of diminishing return. The training had produced really good results for me...but we wanted to take it to another level.
The only answer was increased frequency done in a way that would not beat the hell out of your joints, tendons, ligaments, etc.
In order to accomplish this, recovery HAD to improve. He got it through my head that for me to grow the fastest possible, we had to ELIMINATE soreness. I mean completely. This quite frankly sounded impossible to me. Still seems weird.
Nutritionally we looked at the periworkout protocol, and focused 100% on that. We experimented with jamming as much as we could possibly get into muscle cells.
Once we got my soreness completely eliminated, it then became an experiment to see what I could do, how far I could push the increased frequency and what beat my joints up too much....
Long story short, I made some adjustments to my training, do 8 sessions a week now instead of 5.....and my joints feel PERFECT. Strength has been great...
With the new training, fat loss became really easy. So no real cardio has been done. I am thinking stay anabolic in my mind...don't do catabolic stuff...now I know that weight training itself is catabolic...but it creates anabolic opportunities..
So think about this...wouldn't you want to train more instead of do cardio and deplete yourself.....??
A personal goal of mine right now is to perfect a system where cardio is virtually not needed except a bit here and there....I believe muscle will be fuller and more dense this way.
I alread know what rule #1 will be...don't get fat....don't get so far over contest weight that you HAVE to resort to catabolic muscle wasting activity to get in shape. If you need to do PWO cardio, or get on a stepmill for hours...you have done something wrong (and I have been guilty of this 1000 times myself).

Here is what I am doing now:
Tues - am legs (alot of leg curls without max intensity, adductor machine, and explosive squats....
Tues - pm - Back - brutal from traps down to spinal erectors..
Wed - Chest & shoulders with no barbell work, and very little dumbell work...alot of machines and bands...
Thurs - Arms - nothing heavy..pumping pumping pumping (this has helped my elbows alot) I HATE heavy arm training..
Frid - Back - all upper back...nothing on lower back to not mess up Saturday
Sat - Leg intensity from hell...
Sund - Hard chest and shoulders...
Monday - could be anything...extra pullovers, calves, abs....etc...

Sounds great and cool, thanks for sharing! But pretty sure I can't do that without gear.

yeah he doesnt share any of his 'supp' regime but he and Shelby Starnes have some interesting Pre/Intra/Post workout drink protocols. Thats basically where they stuff all their carbs.

My old trainer^^^ He is frign awesome i tell ya....Friendliest and most sincere honest , sharing trainer i have heard of...
Jonny O still works with him....
I think that if i keep my calories focused and timed correct i will have some good success with it, 4 weeks 2 a day, and 2 weeks dc style, and then repeat...
I am stoked to try it....
Ive been doing the carbs around workout time since working with Phil Hernon, and DC as well...John is perfecting it more, probably due to supp timing etc...
I dont get to crazy fussy with it, but basically almost all my carbs are around workout times, be it one or 2 trng sessions per day...

I like the layout of that John Meadows training plan! Nothing burns fat like adrenaline (well maybe tren, gh, clen, and ephedrine lol), and those hard intense workout do just that! Think I'll give it a shot.

Hi Eric,
People who do training twice a day must watch what they eat as it is important to get essential energy through your meal plans for training twice. People who do not give importance to their diet plans while training twice might lead to discomforts and major health problems.

Back in the day when I was still a natty we always did 2 workouts per day (double split) and never did any cardio as cardio just wasn't done back then. However I did manage to get extremely lean/ripped for contests, and with the greater understanding of nutrition and of course the supplements available today that just didn't exist back then one can make some very solid gains in muscle mass as well as stay very lean on a double split even as a natty.
