I have a fair amount of space not huge but not small. Looking at spending between 3-4 thousand, I've looked at Bose and Onkyo so far but to be honest I know very little about this kind of thing.

If you really like Bose this is a decent system...It won't take up too much space and it will up convert whatever you are watching up to 1080p (IIRC you bought a 1080p LCD/PLASMA) I have heard it and it sounds very good.

This is the HT I am looking at. I don't have the budget you do :)
SONY: Retails around $1,000 http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&XID=A:cj_datafeed&kw=dav-lf1h&lp=11039047&productId=11039047&XID=A:1909457:10383604::CJ&ref=http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:3xw-F-RNqG0J:www.xpbargains.com/index.php/send_deal/84814+Sony+dream+system,+%241000&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=ca&client=firefox-a

Bose is marketing BS! Why not spring for consumer reports online, i'm sure them must have some ratings on there (go check first).

Bose make's some incredible systems, but for a good home theatre stay away from the HT in a box. They're pretty much all crap. Check out B&W or Paradigm's Monitor series. Great stuff.

Best buy sells Yamaha branded receiver and speakers. Lower price but great products.

for anyone looking for a HT for a smaller space or who wants less clutter and isnt concerned with monster volume, i have a sony dream system 2.1 it consists of only 2 speakers plus a sub that connect all via a single cable to the upconverting dvd changer. The speakers have some technology that creates the illusion of surround sound without having anything behind you. Bose makes a similar system. The sound quality is amazing, and it is a very neat and tidy unit.
and as t-rex said- SONY XBR4 or XBR5 is the only way to go.

I listened to the Bose model at Future shop and it sounded pretty damn good. I was surprised at the sound quality produced by only 3 speakers.

I spent some huge $ on PMC speakers and a LINN reciever. Won't do that again. The Linn had one fix already and is currently in Scotland for more repairs.... The Pioneer Elite line is good i hear.

try putting it in a smaller space as opposed to the warehouse space you heard it in.
