Some of you may remember a thread I made a few weeks ago about a shocking pain when injecting my right shoulder. I and others thought I may have hit a nerve. Well after two ultrasounds I finally got the results from my doctor today. Turns out the needle punctured a tendon in my shoulder. It still hurts and is hard to move my arm around. Major setback in my training to say the least. The doctor has me going to see a tendon surgeon and wants me in physio therapy. If that doesn't help he will give me an injection of cortisone and if no results from that they said they will probably move on to surgery.

Man this sucks!

punctured a tendon? they want surgery, physio or cortisone injections? All right out of the medical refrence. Get a second opionion with a doc who is not so close-minded would be my suggestion. The treatment they have offered you is invasive and will create more problems and IMO stay away from physio.

Good point brought up about the pin length. How long?

I use 1" on my shoulders guys.

And yeah jbear I dont think I'm going to agree to physio and I know I wont agree to surgery bro. No way in hell. It will recover on its own with proper nutrition I'm sure. I'm just taking it very easy on the shoulder.

Wow, sorry to hear that MrRight. Get a second opinion for sure, way too many docs these days prescribe surgery for everything.

Ya this why i have always said to people half inch in the delt, had a friend have this problem in the early 1991.Also you should see a RMT for a deep tissue massage or call them up and ask if a massage would help out.

My doctor didn't prescribe surgery. She said that might be something recommended if nothing else fixes the problem. I've seen two doctors already and had two ultrasounds done. I'm pretty confident they are correct that I've punctured a tendon.

I was debating coming off cycle but I decided to stay on considering my job consists of 100% physical strength being applied. I'm going to give the shoulder a few more days of rest from the gym and give the gym another shot.

I'm determined to reach my goals before my wedding on August 23rd regardless of the cost and pain.

Wow, never heard of that before, and wouldn't think with a 1" pin. But crazier shit has happened before. As long as you get yourself healed up. Physio i'd consider, but i'd avoid the cortisol and surgery if at all possible. I guess the lesson for us all to learn here is stick to the 5/8" pins for small muscle groups like delts, calves, etc...

First off MrRight, congrats on the engagement. Second, did your doctor explain what happens to a tendon when it's punctured? I'm curious to find out. Google, here I come.

Also what size of pin did you use??

they use 1 inch needles at work for women and men cant see how you could reach a tendon, you sure your doc isnt tryin to scare you

I'm guessing outside of the triangle as I didn't know you could hit a tendon where they suggest you to inject to be safe.

Never heard of that before. Did you move it around lots. Maybe cutting with the end of the needle??

I would like to consider myself pretty good with injecting as I've done it well over 1000 times but it is possible I guess. The thing is I felt the sting as soon as I injected so I dont think I had any time to move the needle around.

As of today my shoulder is at about 90% and I just finished working out on arms for the first time in probably 3 weeks or more. And I feel freaking great!
