Apologize if this was brought up somewhere else that I didn't notice, but did any of you see that the Elite showdown they will be doing this year at the figure/fitness/bikini nationals will be slightly modified from last year? They will have two divisions:

up to 185, and
185-212

As before, the overall winner gets a pro card.

I think this is an awesome move by cbbf. It finally gives the chance for the best under 212 to get a pro card each year. Only negative is when someone shows up after travelling miles and miles and can't quite make the weight cut-off and therefore can't compete!!

I'd be interested to know how many of the guys planning to do nationals will also do the elite show the week before in vancouver...lots of extra money to travel if you ask me...especially for people out east. makes it more cost effective almost to stay in a hotel another week and just fly from vancouver to edmonton - although with jobs, and all that, makes it almost impossible for some.

I will make a prediction that this elite showdown will once again be a poor turnout. Hopefully at least the winner will truly deserve to be a pro. The last thing cbbf needs is to hand out pro cards left and right to people who aren't ready.

What exactly are the pre-qualifications for this show? Past class winners at nationals...is it also top 3 from last years nationals?

I read top 5 this time... SO they've expanded it from last year's top 3.

Basically:

top 5 in 2010, 2011, or anyone who has a lifetime buy at nationals (through winning provincials, or winning nationals)

hmm. I'm trying to think who'd be a major contender who's prepping for it. Only two guys off the top of my head that i think are committed to this show...Mark Loo and Matt Tsinkorang. My money would be on your brother for the pro card if he wanted it, although it seems he's set his sights on nationals.

I think Greg wants to do nationals one more time in the next weight class up. If he can't win it that way, perhaps in the future will consider the elite showdown. I bet if it were the week after guys like greg would be more likely to do it if they didn't get their pro cards at nationals.

I think its really dumb of cbbf to do the elite show a week before nationals and not a week after. You'd get way more competitors who are in shape that way (ie, they get qualified the week before!). It's really hard to know who would be the ones to watch out for. I really feel as if this elite showdown is not the proper way to go about handing out an under 212 pro card. They really need to have both nationals in the same long-event weekend. With the top placing under 212 competitor from each class battling it out in the overall. If the heavyweight winner happened to be under 212, then they could award it during the 'regular' overall...

I would do the show for sure if it were the week after nationals. Still not sure if I will compete in the under 212 elite. Problem is I want to go to nationals and so if I did happen to win I be pro and not able to go to nationals and try and win a pro card the old fasioned way. Mike lynds NS could be a threat he was 5th in heavies last yr and if he brings in more conditioning to the 212 class he would be tough to beat.
