......Failed Miserably.
I've been hearing a lot of good things about Steel cut oats on the boards so I decided to try them out. I bought some President's Choice Steel cut oats over the weekend and decided to try them out Sat. Morning. Read the instructions for the MW, adjusted the quantities for 1 serving and put them in the MW for 18 minutes, which is what the instructions said.
Well after about 15 minutes, I noticed a lot of smoke coming from the MW, so I stopped it immediately and checked on it. There was a small black (burnt) patch in the center of the oatmeal, and the MW was filled with smoke. And, did you ever burn oatmeal in the MW? It really stinks. And it doesn't go away. The smell is still in there.
It's gonna be a while before I try that again. I'll stick with instant.

What stuff is a PIA. I'd use the stove on med/low heat, lots of water and 30mins of cook time (stirring occasionally). You could always soak them overnight.

Just soak them overnight. Put the oats and water in a pot according to directions and let sit overnight. Cook on stove in am.
Simple.

So after soaking them over night, can you just stick them in the MW for a couple of minutes?

Gonna buy some and try it myself. Sounds tasty. Can you sprinkle some protein powder on the cooked oats to sweeten them and up the protein levels?

One of my favorite snacks that is quick and easy is mixing cinnamon in instant oatmeal (dry) with some unsweetened apple sauce, you can mix in some artificial sweetener or Stevia for an even sweeter taste. I just eat it like that without cooking it...good stuff...tastes like apple crisp.
